Whichever company you choose the questionnaire will clearly state how far back you must go. It's normally two years. On top of that most want to know of any condition you have a repeat prescription for even if you haven't seen a doctor in the last two years. Finally some, not all, want to know if you have ever had cancer or heart issues even if all clear now.
Just read the questions carefully.

Thank you everyone for your comments, it seems you are mostly aware of the insurance requirements.
So at almost 81 yrs next month how many years do I have to list my previous discharge conditions . It's impossible to remember at my age all the GP and A/E visits I have made over the many years of my life.
Our insurance was just over £1000.00 last year the year before was over £2000 for the both of us for an annual policy as we have many conditions to list.

This is why I don’t risk going abroad any more. At nearly 75 I don’t recall every little ailment I’ve had so I know that the insurers would find something I had failed to list. These insurance companies are there to make money and their aim is to scrutinise your history and find something, however minor, so that they can refuse your claim.
When my father suddenly became seriously ill, and subsequently died, my daughter and I were overseas. We had to come home. Our claim was turned down because the insurers decided we should have known he was terminally ill. Of course we didn’t know! Had we known we would not have gone on holiday.

I always phone and do the screening with someone from the insurers; it’s the same for most companies and I got a print out of all the questions and answers, which is so helpful. I can look at it and then add all the new things from the last 12 months. I have also started a diary system of noting every interaction with Gp, nurse or hospital, and I mark with a red pen. I also keep some prescription notes so as not to miss any ad hoc things. This makes it so much easier to flick through and find it all. We get our cover through nationwide flex plus account, and although there’s a monthly fee as well as the premium it works out so much cheaper. Hope this helps someone.

You really have to tell them everything to be safe.
They will tell you when things start to be covered again.
It can be very expensive , ruinously so, to leave things out.

I've had cancer 3 times ( ok now) ...I've had recurrent UTIs ....I've had gastritis....anxiety .....and peripheral neuropathy.....I've had none of this for over 3 years but I wouldn't dare not mention them .....I even put down menopause because I'm prescribed estrogen cream ....my insurance isn't too bad now....paid 25 for weeks in Europe last month

All insurance companies ask you to list anything you have consulted a doctor about or taken medication for during the last year, some ask for two years.
So a chest infection 11 months ago needs declaring.
I have a long list of pre-existing conditions but I also
keep a list of one offs.
My insurance is about £600 a year.

You have to tell them everything! Any little thing you miss off and you won’t be covered.

I heard a man on the radio saying his insurance refused to pay out because he did not list ONE BP medication from many he took.
