Migraine ( silent )

Yes I’ve been having visual migraine for over 30 years now. On average about 12 a year. I just have zigzag lines for 20 minutes and feel a bit spaced out after. I don’t usually have a headache. The visual part gradually moves out if eyeshot. When I first had them in the 90s my GP rang the ophthalmic doc who said it was a visual migraine , what service !! They are annoying and I can’t really put them down to anything apart from perhaps stress and skipping meals.

I get the aura then still often feel sick and tired after, only just realized it was the heavy weather it's useful to know

I have had about three episodes in my life.
Scary the first time - one eye with fireworks, the other , half blind.

Take a paracetamol, sit quietly for 20 minutes and it’s gone.
Never any pain, thank goodness.

Another migraine sufferer! My mum and dad both suffered - dad particularly badly. My sister gets them too, but not my brother. Younger son gets them but just the aura type. I used to get the full thing from when I was five - aura followed by the most awful headache and numbness down one side. Over the years and with the advent of triptans they have toned down. Now, finally at the age of 72 have one very infrequently - three so far this year - and it is aura only. Debilitating would describe my experience.

I get them frequently now. I think mine are caused by stress. Starts with a blind spot and then a small zigzag shape which increases in size and slowly moves away and disappears. They last about 20 mintes. No pain and no real after effect. Very frightening the first time, but I am used to them now.
I just sit quietly until they go. A nuisance if I am out, but they happen more at home these days. Maybe because I am at home a lot of the time currently.which is stressing me. So a vicious circle.
The optician and eye hospital I go to for glaucoma checks are not concerned.

I get them too, and currently having a phase. Mine are triggered by bright lights, reflections of things etc.
Exacerbated by tiredness, hunger and dehydration in my case. Zigzagging lines with an odd blind spot, lasting about 15 to 20 minutes.
I’m sometimes left with a slight dull headache, but not enough to take a painkiller.

I get them if I look at bright lights or if I’m stressed. The first time was very frightening but now I’m used to them. I just close my eyes for about 20 mins and try not to rush around afterwards. My friend gets them too.

I get them as well. It starts off like a blob of water in my vision then the zigzag zags appear. It all lasts about twenty minutes so I just sit or lie down quietly until it ends. There’s no headache.
If I’m driving I try and pull over but if that’s not possible I
can push through it.

Mine are only ever triggered by emerging from a building into bright sunlight. I go and sit somewhere until it fades, usually about 15 mins.Two of my friends get them now too.

I have those silent migraines sometimes with visual disturbance. I used to get the painful kind where I had to lie down for a while.

Aural zig zag migraines that look like illuminated sharks teeth. Also pixelation like in the Predator film with holes in my vision. Mine seem to be triggered by chocolate, mouldy cheese and walnuts. Also too much sleep and sensory issues if there is too much going on around me. Used to be monthly just prior to my period but since menopause that stopped.

I also get the zigzag lights at the side of my eyes
They last for a few minutes but my eyesight isn’t great until they have completely gone.

I mentioned this to my optician and she said they were Aural migraines. Completely painless though.

My daughter has severe migraines. I think she also has an aura as well. She has been on beta blockers now, which have reduced them considerably but not totally.

I’m sure I read somewhere that migraines are in the same family as epilepsy. Not sure if that is correct. When my sister who has epilepsy joined the civil service, she was sent to Harley street - the doctor said that it is hereditary. Mind you that was 50 years ago and things move on.

I get an aura/visionary disturbances when I have a migraine, is like reflections on water that starts small then increases until it can increase no further and so stops. Can be triggered by bright light, sunlight reflecting off something or flickering Xmas lights etc., even a candle flame can do it, also changes in the weather, especially heavy cloudy weather and stormy weather.

Hi anyone who suffers from aura migraine, that starts when the weather is dull andchangable?

I occasionally get the funny zigzag patters but so far no pain-----fingers crossed.
I did not associate it with weather but more with my bad posture, or something I ate.

My dd has just suffered a period of cluster migraines. Apparently this can be caused by problems with circadian rhythms and are common In autumn or spring. You have my sympathy, migraine is a dreadful affliction that doesn’t get the attention it should.
