I'm due to have an ambulatory Heart Monitor fitted soon, just for 24 hours it says.
Has anyone else had this and do you know whether I will still be able to wear my bra and prosthesis, or will I have to go around lop-sided?

Just wear what you always wear

Are you having the heart monitor inserted or is it a portable one with electrodes?

You may need a lighter prosthesis, perhaps? A weighted swimming one might be fine.

Ask for advice at the hospital.

It's just one with electrodes. The leaflet says to wear loose clothing.
It wouldn't be worth getting a new prosthesis just for this.

It goes round the top of your arm like a BP monitor so you'll be fine! It's not the most comfortable overnight because it goes off while you're sleeping!

It impinges very little - I forgot I had it on! Its only 24 hours. Tap into your inner hippy and wear something loose.

There are different sorts. One is just like a BP monitor. Others are like ECG machines with electrodes. I've had both and always worn a bra with them.

I had one a couple of weeks ago.The pads for the electrodes were one above my bra and one either side underneath. The nurse threaded the wire through my bra.I didn’t even have to undo it.I’m sure you will be fine with it.

Oh, I thought it was on for months at a time.

Oh, Thankyou - I thought the monitor would be stuck to my chest, not my arm. That sounds OK! I just didn't fancy being saggy and lopsided!

I wore one for 2 weeks. It was stuck just below my collarbone. I also wear a breast prosthesis but could still wear my bra containing that, no problems.

I had one on in hospital for an afternoon. The nurse did make me strip and I wore a hospital gown.

I wore an ECG monitor for a week and still wore my usual clothes, the little machine just clipped on a belt round my waist. The consultant wanted me to live a normal life so I just did everything including riding a horse. I've also worn Bp machines and they are no different really, just tend to wake me up when they inflate in the night.

Thanks everyone - that's a great help! smile

Why a different prosthesis? Just not necessary

I have had many tapes on, the latest for 7 days. Just wear what you normally would. Not getting it wet is the most important thing.

Thanks Sarnia

It is not being inserted so no.

However, with one inserted a lighter prosthesis might be more comfortable.
