Is this prescribed medication or OTC ?

If you find one particular brand is right for you your GP can note it on your repeat prescription. I have one brand of loperamide that is totally ineffective in capsule or tablet form and this is noted on my prescription. The trouble is local pharmacies will use the same supplier which is the problem you have. I’ve used Coda pharmacy for several years and have my prescriptions delivered without any issues.

You're correct NotSpaghetti. Non active ingredients are excipients and some individuals can be sensitive, or even allergic to one or more of these. This is especially the case if someone has been medication or dose intolerant in the past.
If a consultation has been the one who has prescribed this medication that clinic should be the port of call if a GP or/and a pharmacy refuses to provide the one that suits the patient.

Years ago, post heart attack I was prescribed medication, the hospital said that I could only take that particular one, on no account should it be changed.

Sometimes it's the buffers or coating that causes the problems loopyloo.

I take a generic medication but one brand of generic is definitely better than another for me.

I don't understand this, really because the basic substance is the same. So a bit puzzled.

What kind of medication is it? If you need to take it your GP should prescribe it.

You can get meds online - it is worth searching "buy X online" - it would be delivered to your door and this might make life easier for you.

Even though it is not on prescription, would your local pharmacy order it especially for you? If you offer to pay in advance, to reassure them that they won't be left with it?

Does anyone have difficulty finding a pharmacist that sells a brand of medication one takes?
A few years back, when I started to get side effects from a medication, a local pharmacist suggested to try their different brand.
I have been finding this brand is just what I needed. However, this year the three local pharmacists do not stock the brand any longer so I have to go into our local city to get the brand which also do not stock much. I have tried nearly all where the firm mention they sell to but not one has the brand I like.

You need to persuade your GP to prescribe the brand that suits you. The NHS prefers the use of generic medications ( because its cheaper) but does allow branded medications in case if need such as yours ( and mine) . An NHS prescribed named brand can then be specially ordered by the local pharmacist who dispenses your NHS prescriptions.

I take a very expensive branded version of a common medication which was originally recommened by a phamacist who'd seen me struggling with side effects from generic prescriptions. I've (twice) had GP-practise pharmacists question the expense but then accept the side-effects reason.

I've also had dispensing chemists remark "Wow, you're very lucky to get this very expensive brand prescribed on NHS " then tell me they'd have to order it in specially for me because none of their other customers uses it.
Even though I'm a longterm user of Brand X/ customer of my current local pharmacy , because its unusual and expensive they will not keep a supply in stock just for me, They only order the exact quantity each time they receive my repeat prescription from GP.

Talk to your GP.
