A note about toothpaste

I've found one called Sensio with no SLS in Savers. It's only £1 and seems to work well.

How I wish I could use 50p toothpaste but when you have sensitive teeth and gums it isn't any good. I have an unopened tube of Colgate Sensitive which contains SLP but I will try it anyway. Much too exoensive to bin now I have it and fingers crossed it helps.

Just checked my Tesco toothpaste, plus a Colgate Sensitive one that I rub on a sensitive tooth.

Both contain SLS.

I shall keep using them, however, as touch wood, I have not had any problems.

Will keep this in mind though.

Oh my goodness. Have just come across this Thread. DH uses Regenerate. I have been using 'whatever' from the supermarket. My New Year's resolution, check this out properly.

I use Tescos own brand toothpaste, think it’s 50p for 100 grams.

Can’t recall where I read it, but on some testing site, it came out as good or not better than some expensive brands.

I shall go and check if it contains this SLS.

I have sensitive teeth due to receding gums, teeth fine, I was using Sensodyne Rapid Relief but dentist recommended Sensodyne Pro Enamel, so I changed. However, my teeth now are ultra sensitive and and someone recommended Colgate Ultra Sensitive, I don't know if has SLS as there are so many chemicals in everything the list is long. Haven't tried it yet so will check it out.

Thank you for raising this, I have had a blood blister develop on my lower gum and it will not go away. So I checked the Oral B toothpaste I use and find it is one of the ingredients. So I have bought some Sensodyne this afternoon and will change to that and see if it helps.

I’m using Zing now. Being in the UK, I do make sure that toothpaste contains fluoride but apart from that it doesn’t contain sls or titanium dioxide as far as I remember.

I was recently reading about Zing and how good it is with no nasties. Do you recommend I might try it.

My teeth and gums are good enough for my age.

What is your definition of good enough and how old are you? Some people look after their teeth and still find themselves with dental problems.

I had the same when i had my wisdom tooth out, the next day I looked like I’d been in a punch-up….And. picking up the GS from school everyone said whatever's happened to you..your face..lol.

Robin202 thank goodness for your sanity regarding fluoride which is very bad for us. Please get something pure from a health shop. Also there is 'lauryl sulphate' and 'laureth sulphate' - not sure which is which but i think/hope Faith in Nature products are ok.

Corsadyl? A previous dentist said I should use it daily and permanently!! And yes, I ended up with dark brown teeth 😡

I have must looked at my bottle of Fsith in Nature shampoo and it contains ammonium lauren sulfate. Is that different? Anyone know?

I'll be awaiting that answer myself - as I promptly panicked and bought another one that's deemed okay - and it cost me about £30 for a bottle!!! - ie Philip Kingsley if my memory serves me aright.

Just looked on the Kingfisher website, and the toothpastes seem to have a lot of ingredients, including palm oil

I remember the greatly missed Michael Mosley promoting sls-free toothpaste for those who suffered regularly from mouth ulcers. I’ve used various Sensodyne products ever since and have far fewer mouth ulcers.

I use Aloe Dent - a natural toothpaste minus the Fluoride which we all know now is bad for us.

I also have a problem with SLS and have changed not only my toothpaste but also my shower gel and shampoo with a resulting and noticeable improvement in my skin.

SLS is the foaming agent in toothpaste and it’s very common that it can irritate soft dental tissues, especially gums and the inside of cheeks . As well as ulcers , it’s implicated in Lichen Planus and Burning Mouth Syndrome. I tend to recommend Sensordyne pro enamel as it’s sls free but still has fluoride which is good for sensitivity.

I mean, then how mad is it that this is put into toothpaste!
Somewhere there is a level of commen sense missing.

A pharmacist absolutely refused to sell me Corsodyl toothpaste, said it was far too strong. My hygienist last week advised me to put Corsodyl ointment only on a teepee to target gum sensitivity but absolutely nowhere else and not use it for longer than 5 days.

I’m an other CORDOCYL user.. grrr 😡
