Blood clots

I was in hospital with a Pulmonary Embolism a few weeks ago, cause unknown but suspected heart. I was immediately put on blood thinners (apixaban) and will be on them for the rest of my life.

I'm with Sparklefizz on this, question your GP why you've come off them, there's probably a logical reason but you do need to put your mind at rest as to why

I had one in my arm nearly 40 years ago, probably caused by holding baby for a prolonged time. Course of tablets and Warfarin cream for a few weeks, but no further treatment. And no more clots.
I guess that was called provoked, as mentioned by Jaxjacky, although I didn’t know at the time.
Best to get proper medical advice though.

Hmmm. Are you sure you've been taken off them? Do you take any daily pills? Were the thinners injections or pills? Either way, you should be asking the doctor rather than old ladies on the internet, as we have no idea of your medical history. If doctor is difficult to access, ask any pharmacist and they should be able to advise.

Lola I was told if my clots, two years ago, had been caused by an ‘event’ like flying, or a long car journey - what they call provoked, it would be a short course of thinners. Unprovoked, as mine were, permanent drugs.

My SIL has had 3, he is on thinners for life.

He was advised no Covid jabs!

I can't understand why you've been taken off the blood thinners. Surely you should be taking them as a preventative measure like so many of us do? Please be proactive re your health and see your GP to discuss this.
