*Welcome to Black Dogs 28*:

Its supporting those of us who wish to talk about our mental health problems quite deeply at times: and share aspects of our lives supportively, give and take support.

All are welcome: don't be put off by some of us being there long term, people do come and go.

EllieAnne Sorry youve started with a cold- hope it doesnt hang around too long. Its not been great weather for a walk has it. It was 2 and half degrees here when we went out and we weren't out long. Just enough to give Fluffball some fresh air and new things to sniff at.
ScaredycatDoodle Hope youve been OK today.

Had to wait in for DHs pre'assesment phone call with nurse. Was well over the time so we didn't get out till late afternoon. So very bland day but had lots of cuddles with Fluffball.
Take care all and hope you have a peaceful night.

Sweetpeasue Thu 29-Jan-26 18:43:21

Wyllow Glad you had such a lovely day yesterday. The Botanical Gardens sound so nice. It can be little multiple small things that can please though the large scone sounded good.
Mu aunt does already have carers in twice a day to make sure she takes medication. Social services will be visiting soon too.
Not sure whats happening with the car. The garage would probably hold it for a day maybe . DH wont be allowed to drove for a couple of dys after Monday ,depends what they will be doing.
HVDY Hope the day centre was good today and the meal was nice. Book we're reading is Monsignor Quixote. I wasnt keen on reading it but it has promoted some good discussion. Fluffball has only had small walk today though have played with her lived toy quite a bit. Apparently shes now on a diet cos shes a bit overweight vet said.
Nadateturbe Ive not been on exercise bike every day this week but the motivation isnt strong. Never thought about setting alarm - actually could work. Oh no , its not a different book each week. The group started 26 yrs ago as a college Literature class with an English teacher. We read many 18th and 19th century novels. Then teacher left and we continued the group in a hired room. Many have died since then and only a few of regulars who started are there. Its now a U3A group though dwindling fast.
Oh Im so glad the infection has cleared. Ouch that plaster coming off must have left you with gritted teeth.

EllieAnne Thu 29-Jan-26 17:50:05

Nadateturbe I don’t get the headache just visual disturbances.
I haven’t been for the walk yet. Have had a busy few days and am starting a cold.

nadateturbe Thu 29-Jan-26 17:04:30

I think the infection is gone. I shall endeavour to see a GP to make sure. Have stopped antibiotics, it's 10 days, can't wait for a little glass of red! My skin was bleeding taking off the (hypoallergenic) plaster today.

nadateturbe Thu 29-Jan-26 17:00:49

EllieAnne how is your head now? It could be tension but you should see the GP. Have you been out for a walk yet?
Sweetpeasue I hope your headache has gone. Glad you enjoyed the group.. Is it a different book each week? That would be a lot. The one I attended met once a month. My son doesn't do car sales as such, he's in another area of the business, but he knows the market well.
Copy and paste works. Just paste to message box.
Black ice is scary. I remember going into a spin many years ago. Also I think cold weather would make your husband worse. Our bodies have to work harder to stay warm.
I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. It's very sad. You'll enjoy having Fluffball while your son and DiL have a short break before mum coming.
I think time passes more quickly now and we rarely do all we plan to do. I have a little cycling thing, just to exercise my legs when I can't do much. I've used it twice. 😃 . Perhaps if we set alarm reminders it might encourage us.
Scaredycat I'm sure your cats look and feel lovely now. Goodbyes are hard. Some things about being older are not nice.
Yes, there is a pier where I can get great photos or do short walks.
HVDY how did your not doing much day go?
Hope you enjoyed day centre today. . Bursitis can be very debilitating. I didn't realise you could have an op for it. I had it once and was on crutches. It just went away.

Doodle Glad sitfit was better. It will get easier. I didn't realise either you had such bad pain in your hips and knees. That sounds very difficult to bear. Do painkillers help? It's very difficult to stick to exercise routines. It's a matter of being disciplined. Easier said than done. Maybe use Alexa to remind you. As HVDY suggests exercise in the pool might be gentle and fun. And good suggestion from Wyllow3 too.
Wyllow3 you had a very pleasant day yesterday. You sound like you're getting past the stress of the last weeks which you have dealt with very well and I think the outcome where you decide when he returns is the right one.

nadateturbe Thu 29-Jan-26 08:28:40

Scaredycat I posted to you two days ago and forgot to press post. It was mostly to say the house seems empty when children leave and it'll take a while to adjust. I see he's coming next year, that's good.
And also that giant chocolate buttons are my treat too 😋.

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 29-Jan-26 08:11:56

ScaredyCat That's quite a long time before you see your son. Do you FaceTime each other? I bet your boys look even more handsome after their trims. They must be so well-behaved and patient.

SweetpeaSue Glad you enjoyed book club. What have you been reading? Sad about your aunt, but at least now there's a diagnosis. Will her daughter arrange for carers to help, perhaps with meals? Have a cuddle with Fluffball today.

Doodle Bursitis can be very painful. My dad had it in his elbow and had an operation for it. Would aqua aerobics help?

nadateturbe Hope you're ok and that the antibiotics are having a good effect.

Wyllow3 Glad you enjoyed the stroll around the Botanical Gardens. What a lovely place it sounds.

Day centre place today (missed last week). Hope everyone manages to have a decent day x

Wyllow3 Wed 28-Jan-26 22:06:05

Well I did make the most of it - a lovely warm sunny day and I went to the Botanical Gardens and strolled around just enjoying the sun and the peace,

Felt like a releases from prison after the days and says of gloom and most people smiling and I met a lovely 4 week year old and had a scone the size of a plate and took half home.

A real blessing of a day, makes one think spring and hope can come. I actually walked for an hour becuase I just “Strolled”.

Although I havent been walking much the indoor exercises have strengthened my knees and feet and so on.

MrA is baulking at some things in my final draft but I think he’ll come round. (A question of taking full responsibility for not just the assault but admitting to calling it something else for 3 months, and also not blaming my MH for things that any woman would feel after his assault!)

If he doesnt, enough, he can’t come back (yes, I feel up to insisting) till we’ve signed the statement together. Basically as soon as he agrees, it's a done deal, could be tomorrow etc, and next Tuesday I name the time he can come back.
But I am feeling more optimistic, little bits of happy are creeping in now and then, it did in the lovely sun.

Will the garage hold onto the car for you just for a day, Sweetpeasue ? It sounds like just what you have been looking for and you need something nice and reliable and comfy. I hope the sun made a difference - and I’m glad to hear the book group went OK - keeping it up is valuable even when it’s not great. Sad news re your Aunt. Does your Aunt’s DD have a good family support system?
Have a good cuddle with Fluffball.

nadatetrube I think its a good plan to write and save! I dont trust myself!

Hi Scaredycat. You got the sun too! I’m glad you had a walk. Even a short one in this sun does a lot of good. Where did you go? Coffee with DD?

I’ve been sorting and clearing and discarding or photographing art work a bit, it feels good to clear to move on and sort of re-visit and re-undertand some of it. (The autobiographical stuff)

Bursitis is very painful, Doodle. And it is hard to motivate yourself to doing exercise - even I with all my experience and knowing what to do for this and that - its why I go to the gym to get egged on by others around me.

Are there maybe a couple of friends who need to do similar exercises and you can meet up to encourage each other? The sort of exercises the GP wants I’m sure will be positive all round for our age?

nadateturbe Wed 28-Jan-26 22:03:06

Didn't manage to post anything much today. But thinking of you all. I may not post a lot but I'm so glad I found this little group.
Sending love and wishing you all a peaceful night.x

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 21:15:13

Doodle I'm sorry , in light of your painful knee and hip joint problems it was tactless of me to assume you to be fit. I hadn't realised they were so severe and bursitis can make a joint very painful. I was given physio exercises for a bad knee and I did overdo it and made it worse. Then, strangely, it recovered itself with time , though it will always be a weak spot.
Oh I do so hope something will be done for DH on Monday. We seem to expect setbacks now as theres been so many.
Hope you sleep well tonight - you may be overdoing it , though I know you need to .x

Doodle Wed 28-Jan-26 20:09:49

Ellie Anne sorry about the migraines. Perhaps you should have it checked by the GP or maybe optician. I have hardly ever had a migraine so don’t know much about them.
Sweetpeasue sorry about the lost post. I always find that so frustrating and annoying.
Actually I’m very unfit. I’ve been to the physio today and she says I have bilateral hip and knee pain and bursitis. She’s given me exercises for knees and hips and I’m to go back in six weeks. I’m notoriously bad at doing exercises. I might just have to force myself to try.
Hope you get your new car soon. Sorry about Aunt but perhaps a good thing if she can get some help. hope you enjoyed book club. Not long now till Monday and hopefully more help for your Dh.
Scaredycat I can’t imagine how hard it is to say goodbye to your son knowing it will be some time before you see him again. Good to know the girls have had their nails and hair done. I bet they are preening themselves and thinking how beautiful they are. Yes church today and art tomorrow. Keeping busy helps.
Sleep well all. I’m having an early night I’m so tired these days.

Doodle Wed 28-Jan-26 20:00:03

HVDY hope your SiL adapts back to the home quickly. Being taken to hospital is very upsetting for people who don’t know where they are.
Sweetpeasue sorry about your headache. Hope you feel better soon.
Wyllow I love my weekly art class. Once a month wouldn’t be enough for me. Well, done for sticking to your guns and seeing this whole sorry business through. A lot for you to cope with on top of everything else but hopefully others are now protected from this sort of thing happening again by your determination and strength
nadateturbe yes thank you I was better this time. I didn’t over stretch or push myself too far and that made a difference. How lovely to have the family visit. They obviously want to see you. Hope that boil heals soon

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 19:35:33

Oh dear-- SUPERFIT.

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 19:35:05

Doodle Im impressed at your sit fit keep fit sessions. Hope you dont ache too much today. Taking into consideration your walking group and other social activities you will soon be superficial. Ive missed my cycling session today as I was just sat in reading group. I must make more time for doing more and less time on my bum.

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 16:52:25

HVDY Bitterly cold here too ,black ice is scary. Do hope we can get a car soon. The cold weather doesnt suit DH at all and he cant do with this hassle.
Nadateturbe I know how to do a draft email but not sure how to send it to GN.
Didnt realise your son was in car business. No wonder sales are low at present its not great being outside in this weather.
Scardycat Been first dry bright day for ages . Had to go to book group this afternoon. It was better than I expected and we had a good discussion. Glad your cats dont mind having their hair cut- I bet the groomer lady is too!

Just had a message from aunt's DD, aunt has officially been diagnosed with Alzeimers ( not sure about spelling). Very sad really , even though I knew deep down.
Have Fluffball tomorrow and overnight while DS and DIL have a night away somewhere. DILs mum moves in on Friday - its going to be a rough time.

Hope everyone is ok. Post this now before I lose it.

Scaredycat Wed 28-Jan-26 14:00:24

Hi all
EllieAnne- those ocular migraines are weird aren’t they. They come totally out of the blue and randomly. Might be a good idea to see the Doc if they are happening frequently.
HVDY- glad your SiL is well enough to go home she’s had a rough time. Hospital is very confusing for Alzheimer patients isn’t it.
The cats have just had the groomer lady to cut their nails and trim their fuzzy pants for hygiene reasons. She also trimmed their manes as the fur gets in their mouths sometimes when eating. They were really good.
Enjoy your not doing much day.
Wyllow- the sun is out here too- we,ll do as your Mum used to say and make the most of it with a walk after lunch.
So pleased you were able to talk with D and come to an understanding of sorts. Yes it has taken a toll on your health but you had the courage of your convictions and you should feel proud . I hope from now on that Quakers feels like the safe warm place it always has.
Enjoy today’s sunshine.
Glennic- what a lovely place to live combining music, horses, countryside etc. I live in Kent in SE England. Look forward to hearing about your life.
Doodle- always so sad to say goodbye- it will be a year before he’s here again. Now I am older it is becoming increasingly hard to say goodbye to people.
Hope you’re having a good Wednesday visit to church and see not so achy today. The more you do sit fit I guess the less achy you will feel.
SweetPeaSue- losing a long post is up there in the top ten of irritating happenings.
Goodbyes are so hard as you know only too well. Hope your headache has gone and you can enjoy this lovely sunny day.
Nadateturbe- well done for driving to Tesco- yes it must have felt a great achievement. Also enjoying the feeling of freedom that driving gives you.
Is there somewhere to sit and watch the waves safely? I love watching the sea but have great respect for it too.
Candy- how is the move going?

Love to all- mentioned and those we hope to see again .

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 28-Jan-26 13:04:06

Wyllow3 It's sunny here, too, but really cold. DH said he skidded a bit on black ice this morning when he went out for breakfast.
SweetpeaSue Mine's a Dacia Sandero Stepway - don't know if that makes a difference, but the boot opens like any other hatchback. Hope you get sorted out with a car, whatever you get. Hope the book club is interesting.

nadateturbe Wed 28-Jan-26 13:00:19

That should have been "dry here too".

I like doing posts as a draft email on my phone. It means I can do a little at a time. And it saves automatically.
I'm sure they'll hold the car for you to see Sweetpeasue. According to my son, sales are slow atm. Hope it suits you, save you looking further.

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 12:58:45

* Wyllow* You've done a lot of work to get the justice you need for what happened. You will be glad when the 3rd February passes and hopefully you will find some peace.
EllieAnne Are these migraines a fairly recent thing? If you could see/phone a GP and explain what theyre like they might be able to help find out why you're getting them.

Just going out to book group. Back later.
Hope everyone is having a decent day.

Sweetpeasue Wed 28-Jan-26 12:21:48

HVDY So annoying when you lose a post. I dont think sending them on my phone helps- just seems more convenient at the time. Noticed you have a Dacia Sandero- strange, we were looking at one on Sunday and it felt so comfortable. He opened the hatchback door and it opened out over like an ordinary door ( I know not all Sanderos are like that) so it wouldn't have been convenient parking as often you wouldnt have room if a car was in front of you. The garage is getting a Duster in and will phone us on Monday but that's the day DH has Angiogram.
Nadateturbe* Wyllow* Bright and dry here too for once in a long while.

nadateturbe Wed 28-Jan-26 09:45:49

I see HVDY. Yes, I agree, routine is important with dementia.
Enjoy your rest day.
It's bright and dry here you Wyllow3. Lifts the mood.

Wyllow3 Wed 28-Jan-26 08:39:49

EllieAnne I think you should go to the GP with the headaches. These aren't really things should go without a check up, even if its difficult to get to see one?

Wyllow3 Wed 28-Jan-26 08:38:31

HVDY I think we are about to have sun today as the dawn comes on - oh my goodness it's been 10 days or more. My mum would be "now make the most of it!!!"

Well, you were busy yesterday so a lighter day in terms of "doing" isnt a bad thing.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 28-Jan-26 08:21:56

SweetpeaSue Hope your headache has gone. I wrote a post yesterday, then lost it and had to redo it all.

Wyllow3 Well done! MrA and D seem to finally understand things. Hopefully, you can now look to the future and enjoy some better times.

nadateturbe My SIL was admitted with a chest infection, then later had Sepsis. Every time she goes to hospital, it disrupts her and she becomes very disoriented (people with dementia are better in a routine). Chest infections can be (and should have been) treated at the nursing home. I'm glad you were able to drive and do some errands. You did well there. I realise not every day is so good for you, but I hope you have more good days than bad.

Not doing much today. Hope ALL BDers manage to have a decent day x

EllieAnne Tue 27-Jan-26 23:00:08

Yes well done Wyllow.. I hope you have more peace of mind now.
I’ve had another ocular migraine tonight.third in a week. No headache just visual disturbances but I d like to know why I’m getting so many
