Allergy testing

I have had mild and now not so mild asthma for two years. I think it might be an allergy and I wonder if any Grans have used an allergy testing company and if so was it worthwhile.
After having cats all my life I had a test two years ago organised by my doctor which proved I was allergic to cats! Sadly our cat (18 years old) had to be put to sleep but the asthma continued. We now have a lovely little dog and although I've had dogs before, I'm wondering if I'm allergic to her! I do hope not.
Dr seems reluctant to test me. Any Grans' experience would be very helpful. Thank you!

I had an allergy test when I was in my early twenties due to my asthma. I was found to be allergic to moulds and tree and grass pollen.

Thirty years later I had another one- the results? exactly the same.

What symptoms are you getting that make you think you are allergic to your dog?

Thank you for your reply! I was plagued with awful phlegm (sorry if it's too much info!) and mild asthma which resulted in the allergy test, but only for cats because she was suddenly and unusually sitting on my lap a lot.
Sadly we lost our cat in April 24 and by Christmas my symptoms had gone. We got our dog in May 25 and in August the symptoms came back. I am on my second lot of antibiotics and steroids which my Dr gave me on Monday following a very frightening asthma bout - the worst so far! I am almost 77 and have had pets my whole life, often two at a time, with no problem, so I'm hoping perhaps I'm allergic to something else!
