CBD FOR PAIN

Thanks valdavi. Yes, she's on methotrexate which is having no benefit so they did an infusion of rituximab. Her BP spiked and she came out in a rash the next day. She was due to have the second dose a week later but the docs were concerned that the rash indicated an allergic reaction and she might be at risk of anaphylaxis if she had the second dose. She decided not to go ahead and begged them to try her on a JAK inhibitor. I've been on one of these for several years and it really works for me. They've agreed but she has to wait 5 months for the rituximab to clear her system! She's been referred to physio and pain clinic but I wondered if she might benefit from something else.

Few responses on here so maybe no-one has tried CBD or don't want to admit it!

That is a heck of a wait with severe RA. Or have rheumatology tried an initial drug, but that hasn't worked, so it's taking a little longer to find the right drug for her?

Anyway, I hope the GP or consultant knows how severe her pain is and how poor her mobility's become. There may well be other pain relief strategies she can try, or a less potent steroid in a low dose to try to maintain some control over such severe symptoms.No wonder you're concerned for her, I hope she gets established on a therapy that works very soon - they have so many more treatments in their armoury now for RA.

Thank you ferry23. I know my sister would check with her GP about possible contraindications before taking it.

I think some people do get some relief from taking CBD gummies or similar but there's not much clinical evidence to back that up I'm afraid.

I researched this and if I remember correctly they don't do any harm but can react with some medicines (statins for one) so you should always check with a medical practitioner.

Medicinal cannabis is the answer for pain relief but it's only prescribed for a very limited number of very specific and serious health problems.
