Hi Ladies

I am just after some advice and hope someone may be able to help.
I have had really bad leg ache for about 3 weeks and noticed a few large varicose veins on the back of my knee. I went to see a doctor today ( yes a Saturday appointment ๐Ÿ™Œ) and
she advised compression stockings.
Can anyone recommend any(I should have asked), as haven't a clue which to get.
Thanking you for any response.

My DH had some on prescription from his Diabetic nurse, maybe you could ask at your surgery

Can you ask if you can get them on prescription - so they will measure and fit them?

Sorry, Marg - crossed post!

Thank you, it was a locum doctor I saw, so I will phone my own Gp surgery next week.
I have read that you need them fitted, but she just said to get from Amazon. !!

Maybe your legs are a very easy shape...?
I know you can buy online - and someone on here recently said one brand were particularly good...
Maybe they'll see this thread soon...

Peggypatch, I have varicose veins and also had an ulcer on both ankles, nurse dressed the ankles, took the blood pressure in both legs measured ankle and calf and ordered compression stockings for me. They were so tight, I couldn't get them on....I ordered a ( think it's called a medi butler )...you put the stocking over it and put the foot in it, but when I took the stockings off at night, there was a red mark below my knee, it was really hurting. I measured my legs and looked on ebay and found a company who makes them....I forgot to say , the nurse said I needed a medium size...the same measurement from the stockings I got from ebay..was a large, I still have to use the medi butler, but I've no bother with them now.hope this helps..

Oh! I've had flipping varicose veins since I was about 20 yrs.
Only a few on my calves but I don't really worry about them because I mostly wear trousers. Yet, I can understand why they bother some people, especially if they are the ropey looking ones!๐Ÿค”

Ilovedogs
I think if they are causing leg aches then that's when people just have to do something about them.

Ilovedogs22 Sun 15-Feb-26 17:04:31

Yes, of course, I'd forgotten that they can be painful too, not at all pleasant!
Old and creaky or young & self-conscious? No choice at all really!

Hi, Ilovedogs, yes they are causing pain, I am abit worried about flying too, comestic doesn't bother me, as I had skin cancer last year, so a big shark bite in my lower leg.The joy of getting old. !! Xx

Oh Peggypatch, I have to agree with you. I too couldn't careless about about cosmetic- stuff, it's one of the unexpected perks of getting older. However, the physical niggles can be a right pain in the *rse. Literally! Xx ๐Ÿ˜ถ
