Advice please…had an OT Assessment and now received letter confirming that they will remove bath and install a level access shower 🙏

I’ve waited years for this adaptation following mild stroke in 2011…this is means tested and unless you receive pension credit this grant is free…i don’t receive this so am I expected to pay 100% ?

Have any GNs gone thru this process.? And, how long from decision does the adaptation take place?
🙏

I don’t know the answer, other than asking the OT where you stand moneywise, but am commenting in order to boost your post back up the list.

I don’t know the answer either, but I’m a bit confused Bea65 as to why you’ve waited 15 years for an adaptation that would help you after a stroke, especially if you think you end up funding it 100%?

I had a grant to install a level access shower on the ground floor. No builder would do it for the price.in the end I paid the difference. But each local authority has it's own criteria so it's best to ask locally eh the CAB or Age UK. I seem to remember needing a medical as well as Social Services recommendation.

Georgesgran after the mild stroke, I had grab bars installed and an electric shower unit …and this was ok for a while….but fast forward to now, had to wait over a year for an at home assessment as in my area, there are long waiting lists…

Graceless yes I contacted AGE UK, and it depends on your local council authority…

I just thought maybe GNs could advise on their personal experience re the time issues.

When you say no builder would do it for the price? Can you share when you had the shower fitted? 🙏

Tbh I can't remember! It was probably about 12 years ago as I was living in Wales then. I've lived in Kent for about 3 years and paid for adaptions myself because I knew I wouldn't be eligible for a means tested grant.

However I do remember that the room that was converted had been a bathroom in the past so the drainage was still in place and the pipes were easily extended from the utility room ñext to it.
Sorry not to be of more help. I don't think I waited more than a couple of months before it was agreed but then the delay was finding a builder for willing to do it.
