Seborreic keratosis

What damage we have done to our skin in the past without knowing.
I lived by the coast in Kent from 6 to 18 years old and we were tanned from June to September. Then holidays in the Med. . No wonder I have many seb keratosis.
It's factor 50 all the way now.

My mum, now 93 has loads of these now, on her trunk and legs, and she has never been a sun worshipper- she comes out in hives with too much sun- but we have lived in Aden and Singapore while in the RAF.

They were all facial ones. The body ones I can ignore

I am delighted to say that all the SKs frozen off at a private hospital have all floated away leaving just very pale marks which will fade. Well worth it.

My back

I have one on the left hand side of my back. It's about the same size and shape of the larger one on your right. I had 2 a few years ago right under my bra strap and the gp froze both of them off but the one on my left came back. It itches and sometimes get a twinge of pain in it.
I went back to my gp and I was referred to a nurse who took a pic and sent it to the specialist at the hospital who refused to treat it.
I've tried wart remover but that didn't work.
What annoys me is that if I went private the same specialist would be treating me.

Our GP practice do not remove any on the body unless they get caught on clothing and bleed. And do not touch any on the face. They were checked out by the GP and as not suspect no referral would be made to the hospital under the NHS as they are deemed cosmetic.

I had one on my face - the GP was reluctant to remove it as they’re harmless( she was a skin specialist so did know her stuff).
I stressed that it made me very self conscious and she agreed to book me for cryogenic( freezing) treatment - it took two goes but has now completely gone .
I would suggest that anybody with these unsightly and troublesome warts on their faces and near their eyes should DEFINITELY push for NHS treatment

A week on from the cryotherapy and my 'spots' are very scabby. I wash my face in the morning with Cerave washing lotion, dry very gently with tissues and either apply Vaseline or Aveeno. I am lookjng forward to them all washing away one morning!!

Haven't had an invoice yet so don't know how much it cost. I will chase them up in a week or 2..

Yes mine have geown bigger over time. Another gift of growing older.

I hope this cryotherapy treatment has done the trick. I bought a large pot of vaseline and now have a rather shiny face and use a clean teaspoon to dig it out so that the contents of the pot stay clean. I did have lots of little tins in drawers and handbags, but they weee all rather ancient. I am using Cerave washing lotion to wash my face firsf before the vaseline.

Thanks for this thread, which has diagnosed my rice krispy and suggested lots of treatments. Mine is very close to my eye so I can’t put anything on it but Nivea. It’s hidden by my glasses frame. Do they grow bigger? If it does my glasses won’t fit.

I don’t think I have that but, for a few years now I keep getting spots round my neck and shoulders that take ages to heal . Just when I think they’ve gone some more pop up. I remember my mum having something similar. Maybe it’s because I touch my shoulders more than anywhere else. I’m always trying different creams and potions but they still re appear. I assume it’s an age thing.

The largest of the seb ks I had removed was high on my cheek unerneath my eye and was a very unattractive Rice Krispie like bump with little protruberances growing out of it. And I have hated it for 18 months. The others were smaller and I could have lived with them. But was pleased that the consultant froze them as well.

Cossy, you mentioned the lesion close to your husbands eye that bleeds & scabs. This sounds like an early cancer - an Sqamous cell or basal cell . Either way it needs to be dealt with.

Thank you. He did have it looked at by the GP about a year ago and was told it was nothing (though no biopsy or follow up or dermatologist referral) He’s Irish with skin which burns very easily.

Today I had 6 Seb Ks on my face frozen by a dermatology consultant at a private hospital. He said it would sting and it did. He said they would now blister and then scab. In 2 to 3 weeks the scabs should fall off. The advice was to keep my face clean with gentle soap washing and apply vaseline to keep the area moisturised. Until they send an invoice I dont know what the cost is. Todays appt was for a consultation but he said he would do it while I was there. The consultation cost 260.00 but I dont know if that covers the treatment or if that is an additional cost.i wait and see.

They turn black? Please see your GP if this is the case as that is a red flag.

Mine on my chest itch but I have found that tea tree cream, from Boots, stop the itching

I wonder if this is what I have on my back several patches of sort of dry skin that sometimes I'm able to scrape off with finger nail. These are colourless though so maybe different?

Sounds like I have the same on my legs and my left hand (which I hate as so visible). I just did a quick google as a result of this thread and think they are stucco keratosis. Non contagious which I have been worried about and have been using a separate hand towel. They recommend a urea cream so I have ordered some.

Have you tried applying Castor Oil at night massaged into the affected areas? It has so many benefits so may help if used over a period of time.

I had one on my temple frozen off by the GP but it came back a few years later. Someone recommended that Scholl verucca gel that you paint on - and it seems to work .
I paint it on for a couple of days, then when it’s dry - just peel it off and the wart comes with it .

I get some of these lesions on my scalp. I treat my outbreaks with a gel called "Youth Restoring Gel". This is a gel composed of vitamins A.C.E and Sea Buckthorn produced by GRUUM , A British company using ethical products. I have used it successfully on blood spots and small scars and a. small mole on my face. A little goes a long way.

Your back could be my back grannybuy. Same on my front. And as well as my large crusty rice krispie close to my eye, I also have, similar to yours, flat 2 dark brown raised"lesions" on my temple above my ear. I would have hated them as a younger woman. I will be pleased to see the back of the facial ones.
I too will call them barnacles.

Ah yes this definitely is what I have . Not a lot but maybe 6 different places. I wonder if it's a hormone build up or lack of

I have them on my scalp. I am very embarrassed about going to the hairdresser. I went to a private dermatologist but she wouldn't remove them. She said they could look worse. She recommended Vasaline but its done nothing to help

I thought it was just me.....my back and much of my front are covered in them. GP said no referrals on NHS so went to a private skin specialist to be told it was genetic and nothing could be done. 20 minutes, £200. I've found many of these posts helpful and useful , thanks to everyone.
