Recently this is happening to me . I shower daily and change underwear daily so not sure why this is happening. Someone i know went to gp for similar reasons and was prescribed hrt cream but I didn't find out if it helped....not something I felt I could ask....has anyone used hrt for this problem???

Yes I have been prescribed Estriol.

"Estriol (E3) is a weak estrogen hormone primarily used as a topical medication (cream, pessary) to treat postmenopausal vaginal atrophy, including symptoms like dryness, itching, and painful intercourse."

You have to be prepared to erm - get it up there, but there is an applicator.

Vaginal eostrogen.... pessary....cream....or gel

Alternatively, they may suggest a swab taken, and an examination, to see if there is anything else indicated, if the sorenesss really persists?

This is a very common post menopausal problem and your doctor will have treated this many times I think. If you are embarrassed would you feel better about going to a female doctor. Don’t neglect it as it can get et.

Worse.

Vagisil helps. It calms it down. Or Diprobase cream. Helps me.

I was prescribed Estriol cream after examination by a female doctor, one of my worst nightmares at 81! It has worked. I'm not keen on the applicator but needs must.

Please, avoid the use of shower gel in sensitive areas.
Best wishes for a speedy resolution travelsafar. flowers

I was told its ok not to use the applicator, just apply by hand to vaginal area and it works for me.

I have same for urinary leaky problems. It does help. It is a very weak formulation so does not carry HRT concerns.

It works because it gives you back some hormones and btw strengthens the walls of the vagina as well as tackling dryness.

As well as being given for dryness and soreness it is for those still sexually active.

The advice on no soap is really tops, btw, I just found that by experience.

(I'm fortunate enough to have a bidet, so can just use warm water to give a good splash, but a shower head can do the job - but in the past I have DIY'd using an old basin of clean water)

(Its always 100% OK to ask for a woman doctor btw, if the problem persists/gets worse do get a swab done and tested)

Because of persistent utis I have just been given vagirux (Estaiol)which are pessaries applied by an applicator. This is single applicator for the course.I applied one two days into uti. I found it surprisingly difficult to put it in very far. I am 84 and was told years ago that I had vaginal atrophy. Anyway got it in a little way and hoped the pessary would fly a little higher when released. 🤣However after this I experienced an uncomfortable feeling a bit like nerve pains. This lasted awhile so decided to wait until uti medication is over as wondered if that was part of the problem. I asked GP if I should use it before uti is over and she said it didn’t matter. Has this happened to anyone?

As Bridie says above, you don't have to use the fiddly applicator. Below video by a doctor in explanation:

Try Yes Vaginal Moisturiser. It is non hormonal and suitable for vagina atrophy.

Great video!

I was told to put it all the way up, and am, but possibly a different reason.

Can you put Diprobase down below?

crazyH Sun 08-Mar-26 14:15:38

MT62 - maybe I misunderstood OP - I meant I use Diprobase for skin around the vagina , not internally 😂

Faith In Nature do natural unscented soap. From health food shops and it lasts a long time.

If it could be thrush, live natural yogurt on a tampon is helpful.
