Bisoprolol

I’ve been on a low dose and no weight gain. I do have icy sensation on a daily basis in arms upper back and shins with or without heating on. Pharmacist suggested stopping bisopropol but it made no difference.I have three heart stents and bisopropol is important.
The only way to test if it is putting on weight is to stop it and change to an alternative for a few months. My thinking is stick to the devil you know as the one you don’t know might be worse!

We're both on it and don't think it leads to weight gain. It's a damn sight better than the heart problems it treats!

I started on 2.5mg recently and did notice a few pounds weight gain initially, but it has gradually come off again, perhaps with a bit of watchfulness as to food intake. Before starting it I didn’t need to be too careful so it must have changed something. What I do notice is that I quickly get breathless now when walking up hills and having to slow my pace - annoying.

I’ve been on a low dose for 10 years, and although I’ve always struggled with my weight and have to keep my calorie intake low, I haven’t felt that this medication has affected my weight.

Any weight I’ve put on since then (not all that much) will almost certainly be down to Christmas over indulgence (chocolates, mince pies etc.), and multi packs of KitKats, hot cross buns, the odd doughnut, etc. when I can’t blame it on Christmas.

I know how you feel I have been on 2.5 since 2017 for Afib. , I did notice a slight increase when I first started. I have been dieting since August 2025 and I have lost 2 stone, but it has been very slow despite being very good with food and exercise. Chatgpt agreed that the effect of bisopropol leads to s slowed down metabolism and gave an indepth explanation of why and tips to combat. Interesting.

I have taken 5 mg of Bisoprolol daily for 7 years and I have had no weight gain.

I have taken Bisoprolol for 20 years and no it did not lead to weight gain, in fact in the last five years I have lost about twelve kilos.

My daughter has been on Bisoprolol for two years and her weight is static but I have noticed her hands and feet are cold and a little bit puffy. She does have a pacemaker and leaky heart valves. I will mention this, thank you.

I was put on 2.5mg Bisoprolol almost 5 years ago, to slow down my heart rate. I didn't have a problem at all - until a few weeks ago, when one of the GPs changed it to 5mg. Since then, my hands and feet are cold all the time, I feel cold all over even when the weather is mild. I've stopped losing weight (lost 3st since Oct and now, despite having roughly 900 calories a day, the scales aren't changing. My BP hasn't changed at all (averages 140/78, the GP would like it to be 135). I'm going back to taking 2.5mg

Is there no other alternative drug?

I lost a considerable amount of weight around five stone over a couple of years. Despite being careful of my diet and returning to swimming after major surgery my weight has insidiously crept up. The bisoprolol is a recent addition to my BP regime, I have heard that newer beta blockers do not affect weight. Apparently Bisoprolol can slow metabolism? It breaks my heart that after all the effort I put in I cannot keep the weight off.

I'm on 5 mg for a number of years but haven't noticed much weight gain, apart from the usual slight creep upwards as I get older.
I think metabolism slows down as one gets older so if you don't eat less to match the reduced output, you will put on weight!

I put on weight easily anyway and didn’t notice any marked difference when I started taking it nor again when I stopped taking it.

The literature says it can do Might depend on your life style and the dose you are on
