Has anyone signed up for this? We've had a letter from this organisation, sent, it says, to us not by name but as a random address. I think it sounds interesting but wanted to find out a bit more. Any comments would be welcome. Thank you in advance. smile

They are a research company working with the NHS
Lots of info online.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 30-Mar-26 17:18:49

Yes thanks, I know that and have looked at it, but I wondered if anyone had tried it and how they found it.

Twoonatandem Mon 30-Mar-26 17:24:49

Yes, my husband and I have both done it.

They do an initial basic health test (height, weight, blood pressure, etc), then track you over the next few years (I believe). We haven't been called back for further tests yet, but I understand they are doing research into all sorts of medical conditions, and who develops things in the future.

1000's of people are already signed up, but they need lots of people to create enough data to use. (Different ages, locations, familial histories, pre-existing conditions, etc.)

In our family we have an inheritable condition, which sadly our daughter was born with (our 2 sons luckily missed it).

I will do anything to help research into this and other medical conditions so that treatments and cures can be developed, and other families do not have to suffer what we have in the future.

Do get involved if you can, the more information and people they have the better...

'Our Future Health is very similar to the UK Biobank that recruited half a million people for, a huge database about 15-20 yers ago. The results from the huge bank of data the Buibank has collected

Both the UK Biobank and Future Health are working together and while people are free to join the sample for both schemes, people who are already members of UK Biobank are being asked not to volunteer for the Our Future Health sample as well. www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/taking-part/our-agreement-with-you/should-you-participate-in-our-future-health/

If you look at this companion site, it lists some of the advances in science made using the Biobank data. You will probably recognise a number of them because they have made it into mainstream media www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/discoveries-and-impact/major-achievements/

UK Biobank has been able to do help so many groups do research that I would encourage anyone who is not a member of UK Biobank to volunteer for this project.

DH and I both did it ages ago.

Visgir1 Mon 30-Mar-26 20:13:41

Did this last summer, had to attend a big set up in a Supermarket Carpark.
I got an other one only a couple of weeks ago too, that's about Exercise and sport.

Susiewong65 Mon 30-Mar-26 22:38:35

Yes I signed up for it last year.
I’ve had several interesting emails from them letting me know about some results and data that their researchers have discovered.
I haven’t been called back at all but I am perfectly happy to participate.

Via Our Future Health I was invited to take part in a trial for a new type of test to identify people at risk of oesophageal cancer. The test was new and designed to identify people with particular tissue changes that could be an indicator of serious issues in the future. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience but I was very pleased to be able to take part to help the research. Also as a chronic heart burn sufferer I’d been concerned about acid impacting negatively on my oesophagus. My results were all clear, thankfully.

I have volunteered with BioBank research for several years now and am of the opinion that it has been of benefit to me and to others indirectly through research, hopefully.

Basgetti Mon 30-Mar-26 23:09:53

I did but was bombarded with communications, so ducked out.

DH and I did it a couple of years ago. I was told that my cholesterol level was 16 and I had very high blood pressure and I needed to see my gp asap. Doctor laughed when he heard about my cholesterol as it’s usually ok and I have low blood pressure! Blood test showed cholesterol was 3.8! OFH have never contacted me since but send DH regular emails.

Thank you all very much. Think I'll go for it.

I took part in The Million Women Study a few years ago.
There were no visits or testing apart from blood tests at one’s own GP.
It was all by questionnaire and very tedious and time consuming it was.
I haven’t heard from that for a long while.

uite agree. A scan for the Biobank discovered I had osteoporosis. I had absolutely no symptoms. I fall flat on my face regulalry but have never broken anything. i still have no symptoms and still fall regularly, but it it hadn't been picked up and I hadn't been prescribed Alendronic Acid it could be much worse now and I could have broken something when I fall.

No bloodtests were available near me. Im in Suffolk, I'm not going to London or Reading, I would have gone to Cambridge but there are no appointments available there.

vegansrock Tue 31-Mar-26 15:44:12

Ive done Our Future Health and a Galieri one which did blood tests to determine if cancers can be detected early. Got a £10 supermarket voucher every time. Why not if can help future generations.

I did this in 1923, it does seem to be very worthwhile. They set up their testing in a Boots not far from me so it was convenient.

I did this last year. They picked up a problem with my pulse and said I needed an emergency ECG within 24 hours. I rang my surgery but it was 2 pm so it was just the recorded message to ring 111. I did so and was sent to A and E! 13 hours and 3 ECG’s later, I was discharged with nothing to worry about. Glad I did it though if it helps their research.

I think I read somewhere that it is Palantir (sp?) a USA firm with connections to Trump who is running it. Privacy of medical info would be my concern.

stewaris Tue 31-Mar-26 16:54:19

Wheniwasyourage I was contacted as well and went to an appointment for weight, height, blood pressure and haven't heard anything else since. However, both my OH and I have received letters from the NHS asking if we would like to register for it. I did as soon as I was contacted as I have a history of early onset alzheimers riddled through both sides of our family. My late father's doctors that my siblings and I have a 25% chance of contracting it.

WithNobsOnIt Tue 31-Mar-26 18:16:29

Not had anything so far but maybe interested in joining .Just looked them up and there are a Registered Charity funded mainly by the Government.

They maybe private research groups involved at some stage but it looks as though it is on the level. Not a jobs for their friends from the Private Health Care set up.

Guardian reported in March that data had been leaked “dozens of times”. Maybe read TrustPilot reviews?

Usedtobeblonde: I replied to the Million Women Study questionnaires for many years then stopped hearing from them. The doctor behind the Study (first name Valerie, can't remember surname) died, I read her obituary in the national press. Last year I emailed them and had a reply asking if I wanted to contiue on their list and would my daughters be interested. DD1 and I said yes but I've heard nothing further.
