Two things. 1. You can refuse to be weighed at the doctors . They have to seek your permission for this and other things and you can say no .
2. Your GP can commence you on mounjaro if you are obese and a type two diabetic. My Diabetic nurse stated me on injections on the NHS last year and I have lost 4 and a half stones. I feel much better and am no longer on insulin . My overall health has much improved . I have never listened to any scare stories about weight loss injections .

If you refuse to be weighed, how will a Dr know you’re obese?

I'll wait until after Easter to resume my battle with my weight .
Part of it is my fussy cluckiness
I'm turning into my mother.
She was a nightmare with food .
Even worse than my father and that's saying something .
I'd cook something healthy which she wanted and then she wouldn't eat it ,but wanted a sweet dessert.
As I age ,some foods are becoming revolting to me - it's either the texture (mincec)or the smell (eggs) and now cheese.
Then I'm craving sweet things.
But I'm trying to increase my consumption of vegetables,salad and fruit and to decrease those sugary goodies .

Aldi and Lidl sell reduced fat cheese which I now buy. I love my cheese.

I don’t eat bread or any butter spreads, fried food never, no cake but do have chocolate cravings so I buy dark chocolate…

I air fry food as much as possible….need to lose 4 stone …

Had GP appointment last week and was told my cholesterol has raised quite a bit. I've always been solid but not fat. I've been given 3 months before my next cholesterol blood test. I've looked into foods for reducing cholesterol but as I have an ileostomy quite a few things aren't suitable. However, I've changed my milk, butter spread, bread type, etc., and cut out chocolate and the majority of biscuits and have lost 6lbs. Would never consider jabs unless expressly advised by GP.

Totally agree with Oreo and others. Do not go down the weightloss jab route. Apart from not knowing what the long term side effects are, its costly and if you find yourself becoming dependent on it , it wont be good for your health or pocket.

The conversation is shifting from blanket control of cholesterol and it is considered an important part of cell membrane/brain health.
Try to avoid being put on statins as once on, you’ll be on them for ever. Ive seen it happen.

Take your health into your own hands - drop cakes, sweets, biscuits and suchlike and see the weight come off. Good luck.

I was wondering what the “2 and under” meant? My last cholesterol levels were nearly 8 so they have suggested I take statins, but I am also currently tapering down high dose steroids (omg the weight gain - 2/half stone since September!!) plus just started under a gastroenterologist as had gall bladder removal op last year so they’re testing for bma (that will be cholesterol lowering meds, but which are not statins). So waiting for the time being. But the weight gain is horrendous.

The latest target is 2.0mmol/L for LDL OR 2.6mmol/L for non HDL cholesterol (ie LDL and triglycerides).

Total cholesterol (ie including HDL) doesn't appear to feature in the new targets.

When you are given your cholesterol results, make sure you are given a breakdown with LDL, non-HDL and the ratio, which will tell you far more than a single total.

I go to SW, it took me a while but I have lost a stone. I weigh myself every day which enables me to keep track of things. If I have put on I am very careful if I havnt I am still careful because I ideally I still have more to go.
I joined with a younger woman, mid / late 40 s , who has lost 9 stone in the same period, just by following the plan. She has learned new ways to eat and I have no doubt she will keep the weight off.
It has probably cost her a lot less than paying for this new treatment especially if to keep the weight off you have to take it for life.

If you start the weight loss treatments such as Wegovy, you have to go on with them, otherwise you gain weight again, so unless you really cannot loose weight without them, or you must loose weight now, stay off them.

GPs, consultants, cardiologists are very much in favour of weight loss meds like Mounjaro. They would prescribe it on the NHS to all obese people if they could (it's a question of money). Things are changing and the government realises obesity related diseases (including some cancers) are killing many thousands every year so the weight limits will be reduced. They are actively recommending (like my friend who is a cardiologist), going to private clinics like Boots etc. You will qualify with a BMI in the 30s. Rapid weight loss can cause loss of muscle density so it would be important to do exercises- even while seated. Remember that rapid weight loss symptoms (like hair loss) happen on any calorie restricted diet- with or without weight loss meds. Would people criticise you for wearing a nicotine patch or taking antihistamines or blood pressure meds? It's up to you and your doctor. Ask him/her what they think and then make an informed medical decision if you need to obtain the meds privately. Advice on a public forum is useful (I have really appreciated it) but it can't take the place of advice from medical professionals.

I usually weigh myself the First of every month but I think I have added weight so I dodged it today on the "April fool" basis.
Tomorrow perhaps. I agree that the OP should try the balanced reduction route before going on the Jabs unless her GP wants her to have them.

Because my BMI is not over 40, have to visit pharmacy for weight loss treatment …so just wondered if anyone has been told to go to pharmacy for treatments?

Oh Bea, that must be really rough. It can be a long day can't it?
And snacks and biscuits are so comforting and nice.

It's a life long battle the weight , sorry I don't have the answers.

The only way to lose weight for me is to cut out most carbohydrates. Eat protein at each meal, and lots of veg & salad & homemade veg soup. Only 1 item of fruit a day. Only carbohydrates I have are Ryvitas or oatcakes when on weight loss mission. No sweets, puddings, cakes or other sugars.
If I introduce other foods I do not lose weight.
Veg soup- a cupful before lunch and dinner (or sometimes mid afternoon) fills me up. To make- time of chopped tomatoes- add chopped onion, carrot, celery, spinach, courgette, broccoli, stock cube, pinch coriander, S&P, pinch mixed herbs- add extra pint and a half of water, cook until veg are soft. Keeps well for a few days in the fridge.
Drink extra water during the day
Try this to kick start weight loss! It works for me. Good luck !

Don’t panic. I have also piled on some weight but am not intending to weigh myself, instead am using a small sized plate, having smaller portions, and am longer buying sugary goodies or to much bread. Am filling up with veg, fruit, and protein with less carbs and doing more exercise though mainly in the home following YouTube vids because my DH can’t walk much after his stroke.
Please try this before going down the route of injections. Has worked for me before.

A friend has started having those jabs and I have never seen her look so ill. She has become shaky on her feet and looks very drawn. I don’t know if it is just a coincidence but to start things like that at the age of 80 is,to my mind, very risky. Have they done enough research on the side effects for older people I wonder ? She wasn’t that overweight, either.

Seriously tho, if you weren’t worried before about your weight and BMI and so on and this has stopped you in your tracks, then eat very sensibly and cut out cakes/biscuits/ snacks, eat smaller three meals a day and try and walk or exercise in any way a bit more.
Don’t go down the weight loss jab road unless your GP wants you to.

If you can manage to lose weight without relying on jabs (which absolutely have their place, diabetics, morbidly obese people and those who need to lose weight quickly prior to surgery, for exampled) it will be easier to sustain the loss long term.
Cut back on the carbohydrates, up the protein, fruit and veg, ensure calcium for bone health and walk everywhere you can.
Also remember, it’s not a race. Slow, steady loss is again far more sustainable.
