What was your favourite board game as a child?
I had a routine mammogram appointment last week and this morning I got a letter asking me to return for further tests next week.
The letter says I shouldn't automatically assume there's anything to worry about but I can't help wondering what has shown up on the mammogram and am now anxious about it.
Has anyone had this happen to them?
Will do
As Posters have said, it is very common for the image to be inferior, requiring a new scan.
If that is the case, they will probably show you the substandard print, when you arrive.
Good luck.
I think if anything would have showed up, they would have sent you straight over for an ultrasound. I had a cyst which they found in the mammogram but they weren’t sure, so they sent me off down a corridor for Ultrasound.
All was well. Try not to worry.
Yes, once. Like you, I was worried although, also like you, the letter was reassuring. Turned out the first pic was not clear enough and I had to have it done again. There was nothing wrong. Fingers xd for you. The chances are you'll be fine and, if not, much better caught early than late.

I was recalled once. Very thorough test at the breast clinic found a cyst. They drained it there and then. No further trouble since.
Another several no problems, one large benign lump removed, as it was...well cos it was a big lump and they had to be sure:
back in the day when imaging stuff wasn't as good as it it now, they would leave it now, and things like cysts are one of the reasons for half a day, ie can be dealt with.
Other reason is that if they cant for example see anything with ultrasound, it's still not a problem, other ways to tell.
An inverted nipple was noticed at my breast screening when I was still having them and I was referred. I imagined the worst but after a biopsy and a small incision and a couple of stitches, all was back to normal.
My DMiL referred herself when she had pain. She was over 70 so didn't qualify for regular mammograms. It turned out she did have cancer which was treated with a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. The pain was nothing to do with it. Just a lucky coincidence that it was treated quickly.
She lived cancer free until she was 98.
All the best wishes to you. It's good you are being quickly seen. 🤞
I was called back a few years ago and a further examination revealed a fluid filled cyst which was aspirated on the day and that was that.
When I went last year the nurse asked if I had a sore shoulder and could she do another set of pictures; apparently the second picture they take - when we’re kind of sideways on - should go right up to and include the muscle of the chest wall.
I did have a sore shoulder after digging and thought she was a mind reader 😆 but she was aware I hadn’t turned fully into the pic as she couldn’t see the chest wall.
I was grateful because she said that if she hadn’t noticed I’d have been called back for another initial set of pics.
Yes I did. Caught cancer in stage1.
Went through the procedures as prescribed by the hospital.
Now had 2 of 5 years of check ups. Went fine.
Only thing I haven’t done is stay on the meds. Didn’t suit me!
I, too was recalled a few years ago, very worried before the appointment.
I had various scans, on the day, there were lumps which they managed to get out for testing which turned out to be benign. Told by phone call two days later.
Hope everything goes well, most appointments are just for a recheck, always safer to have the checks.
I have, 6 years ago. Sometimes the image isn't good enough so I just had a repeat then all was fine. Having said that, I found a lump 2 weeks ago, same day GP appointment, hospital referral 9 days later. Had another mammogram, an ultrasound and a breast biopsy all in the same clinic appointment. Fantastic NHS treatment. Would have cost me a fortune if I'd gone private.
@sassenach512 I was recalled from a mammogram 3 years ago, and like you was very anxious. I had another mammogram, and was called back in and told that I had a grade 3 cancer. I have to be honest, by this point I had resigned myself to the fact that it could be.
I did several things starting with telling all of my family I didn't need a Dr. Google opinion as the team I was under were brilliant and had all of the answers that I needed. Then, I resigned myself to the fact that everyone was doing everything that they could for me; the answered all of the questions that my husband and I asked very honestly.
I had surgery to remove the lump, and started chemo two months later. The chemo unit was brilliant, everyone was so caring and explained everything as we went along. I got told off a couple of times because I didn't tell them that the chemo was making me sick! I always believed that that was par for the course, but not these days! Now, you tell them and they give you meds before future infusions to stop it
Following chemo came radiotherapy given at a different hospital but again, so efficient and caring. I used to come out and sleep all the way home in the car.
It is easy to say, but please try to stay positve. Well done to you for going for your mammogram in the first place - if there is something needing attention then it has been found! I dread to think what could have happened in my case if I hadn't attended every mammogram I have been called for.
We are all with you all the way. You posting this here may well make someone else go for a mammogram and that's brilliant. Sending love to you
Yes, I got called back and had to wait over the weekend. I was so worried and it turned out to be a cyst which was drained there and then. So relieved.
A few years ago I got called for further investigation, I was terrified and thinking the worst! As you do. But all was well, it was the tiniest of cysts and was sorted there and then. Let's know how you get on x
yes I had that, I was seen by the consultant who said I did have a lump but she felt it & saw it on the screen & it was an empty lymph gland node which had been inflamed & no longer was but was stretched now & wouldn't go back to its former size, its a permanent lump. It is scary, but now I see how many things it could be. I wish you well with yours.
I had to have a biopsy many years ago but it was fine. I'm often called back after routine mamagrams, I'm quite large and apparently my breast tissue folds back on itself when compressed and looks like a lump.
Almost every time I have a mammogram I have been called back in. I have had multiple mammograms, Ultrasounds, MRI scans with and without contrast and biopsies and worry every time but things have always been negative. Some people have very dense breasts and lots of calcification which can show up as concerning areas on mammograms. In the majority of cases follow up findings are benign but if not most breast cancers are very treatable if caught early so try not to worry too much
Yes, I had a recall. Quite worrying I know. Turned out the technician hadn't carrying out the mammogram procedure correctly and gave undefined parts of images. The centre I was called to carried out another mammogram as part of the review and discovered the problem. Do hope all goes well at your visit.
Sassenach 512 I was called back a few years ago and had to have a biopsy , they discovered something very tiny and I could wait to see if it changed or have it out , I chose the operation and all has been well now for a good few years . I am sure you will be ok xxx
I had a recall after my mammogram 5 years ago, they said it maybe a parenchymal distortion. I was absolutely terrified and thought the worst. I went back and had more detailed ultrasound/mammogram and they said it was ok. I had another routine mammogram 2 years ago which was normal. I still dread the results every time I have to go though.
Yes, I have, they did a further ultra scan on one of my breasts and all was ok, they simply couldn’t read part of the mammogram thoroughly.
Easy to say, but please don’t worry x
i got recalled after my last mammogram, said there was small deposits, had 2nd mammogram, poked and prodded and was about to be given a needle biopsy ,when the radiologist double checked, conferred with the specialist and said that the deposits were on my skin. Panic over. Scary at the time
Thankyou all so much. It's amazing to me how people I don't even know can care and give support when it's needed.
I haven't told my family I'm going back because I didn't want any fuss, so I thought "where best to ask for advice?" and you've been a great help.
I'm thinking positively and hopefully it's going to turn out ok, roll on Tuesday
Love to you all xx

I've been called back twice and it has been calcification spots both times. Very rigorous retesting which put my mind at ease.
I was the same.
While living abroad in different countries I had annual mammograms and each time I was recalled for biopsy. The results were always negative but each time I saw a consultant who explained everything to me (micro calcifications). Back to the UK and no recalls or further tests. Not as thorough on the NHS?
I had a call back once, was terrified but everything was fine - it was just a water filled cyst that they drained the same day. They explained everything as it was done. Had several regular mammograms since with no call backs.
