Recalled for a further appointment after a routine mammogram

I had a routine mammogram appointment last week and this morning I got a letter asking me to return for further tests next week.
The letter says I shouldn't automatically assume there's anything to worry about but I can't help wondering what has shown up on the mammogram and am now anxious about it.
Has anyone had this happen to them?

My friend was called back because the first mammogram was not very clear, due to a technicality or something like that. I can’t remember. Nevertheless , she was scared. But it all turned out ok.
Hopefully, you will be ok too.
Don’t worry too much - Let us know how you get on .

Thankyou crazyH for your reassurance I hope so too

Yes. Several times. It was stage one cancer in 2016 and my treatment was swift. Three times since, each time absolutely nothing to worry about. The first pictures just weren’t clear.
The overwhelming likelihood is that it’s nothing to worry about X

I was recalled once. All was well

Thankyou ladies I think I'm just probably needing reassurance I've always had clear results before and this has made me anxious

Of course you are!
Stats are overwhelmingly on your side, though.

I've been called back twice and it has been calcification spots both times. Very rigorous retesting which put my mind at ease.

I had recall I knew it was a scar after having a milk cyst aspirated while breast feeding my daughter. I did inform the staff at the Linda McCartney centre. They did go through the tests they do and confirmed what I had told them.
I am convinced they are being extra vigilant and will put you at ease.

I was recalled a couple of checks ago.

Luckily, an appointment was only a few days away, so not too long to fret, which of course you do.

Thankfully, all was well, as was another lady I knew who was also there for a follow up.

Hope all goes well, the majority of recalls turn out ok, and good to know you’re being swiftly monitored.

It happened to me a while ago. Like you I was scared, but it turned out to be fine. The doctor said it was probably caused by a wobble of the mobile unit in which the mammogram was taken. Try not to worry (not easy, I know) and take a book or crossword to the clinic - there’s a lot of hanging around!

It happened to me too. I had kept assuring myself it would be fine but there was always a little doubt. I was very relieved when I got the all clear.
Good luck.

I was at hospital on Monday for an urgent referral. I had an examination, a mammogram and a scan but all was OK.
Try not to worry. I never worry until I get results.
Good luck.

Yes it's a comfort to be seen again so quickly. It said on the letter to expect to be there most of the morning so I will take my book. Do they tell you the same day what the results are? Life has a habit of throwing spanners in the works doesn't it

Yes they should tell you and they also confirm in writing.
I was there about 1.5 hours.
I hope you get on OK.

I was at The Edinburgh clinic. I had a series of further mammogram, an ultrasound scan and the a biopsy. I was told the results the same day by phone so I didn't have to hang around because I had travelled.

Grandmabatty Thu 30-Apr-26 09:25:57

Mammograms. About 8 all told

I was recalled. In the waiting room were twelve women. Out of twelve only two had cancer. I was one.
It was caught early and I went through treatment which was not nearly as awful as I imagined.
It is better for a cancer to be found and treated as early as possible but chances are there is nothing to worry about.
There were many reasons why the ten women had been recalled that were not cancer.

This happened to me twelve years ago. They did a biopsy .It was cancer at a very early stage. I waited a couple of months for my operation, had two paracetamol when I woke and went home the same day. I was the fourth person in my family to have breast cancer and was half expecting to be told I had cancer after each mammogram. I do hope you receive the all clear though. Best wishes.

That’s good *readsalot”. With your family history of BC were you ever tested for the BRCA gene?

My husband’s late Mother had BC, as did his late Sister, as did her daughter who was only 28 at the time. He was tested and carries the BRCA 1 gene. My daughter was tested and was clear. My son did not want to be tested but researchers have discovered that as well as BC this gene can increase your risk of prostate cancer. Now in the last 12 months they have also found a link to Pancreatic cancer which my son has. They say it would not have made any difference if he was tested because years ago they did not know of this link. He has given about 4 bits of his pancreas/tumour for further research.

I got a recall. It turned out I had a cyst in my breast. It seems this is uite common .

dragonfly46 Thu 30-Apr-26 10:15:14

It is a good thing they are being thorough. I had breast cancer which did not show up on the mammogram!

MiniMoon Thu 30-Apr-26 10:27:57

I was recalled once. Very thorough test at the breast clinic found a cyst. They drained it there and then. No further trouble since.
