I am scheduled for a biopsy for possible skin cancer on my nose, I am scared, not only claustrophobic but also what I will look like

I need reassurance if possible. can anyone help please?

I am sorry you have this worry and if I can offer any reassurance then I can say I have just had successful treatment for my sixth one and there isn’t a scar. I wish you well. It’s a scary diagnosis but very treatable.

My husband had one cut from the top of his nose. The scar was an inch long. Amazingly it healed so well you can't see it now.

Our family are red/blond haired with very fair skin. So now it is factor 50, sun glasses and hat. In fact my sister now avoids the sun if possible.

Yes, I've got very fair skin too and had a basal cell carcinoma down the side of my nose a few years ago. They took it out as a "core", being careful to take out all the margins, and then pulled it together and stitched it. At first it showed because the skin pulled a bit but within a very short time it had disappeared altogether.
Various members of my family have had them and they're relatively straightforward to treat I believe. None of us have scars or obvious marks.

A friend has just been treated for facial skin cancer. It was quite widespread. Treated with creams and it has gone. Her skin looks beautiful. Uses CC cream and high sunscrean everyday.

Doodle dog.

Was the cancer on your husband’s scalp a red colour?
Just wondering as mine has this type on his head.
I know he won’t visit the doctor unless its serious.

How will he know if it’s serious if he doesn’t go?

I had a small scaley patch on the side of my nose which did not heal. It was diagnosed as actinic sclerosis, a pre cursor to cancer. I was prescribed Efudix and applied it every day for about a month. It did scab over but was never too noticeable until near the end of the treatment when I wore a hat with a floppy brim when out and about! The result was perfect. My skin is now completely smooth but, as others have said, I do apply factor 50 sunscreen every day as a precaution.

I had Mohs surgery on my nose for a tiny BCC. It was very minor surgery. I wore a little bandaid for a couple of weeks; that's all there was to it.

One of my friends had a staggering 17 skin cancers removed on one day .
We were all horrified when she told us what was going to happen .
But honestly she didn't look that bad .
It's so important to have them removed and biopsied .

Please don't be tempted to use black salve .
It is not recommended .

Polnan my friend has just had it done on the end of his nose , I won’t lie the scab didn’t look very nice but it soon clears up and you hardly notice it as it is fading

My Dh has just a BCC removed from his chest. He’d had it over a year and didn’t do any thing about it as he had a stroke and it wasn’t priority. It got progressively worse and grew and was oozing and bleeding.
I eventually made an appointment with the GP and she immediately referred us to have it removed urgently.
Five weeks later it was removed and sent for biopsy.i was convinced it was cancer and would have to have treatment.

He received a letter today
Telling him there’s nothing to worry about and it has been completely taken out. No action needed.

Good luck to you I’m sure all will be well.

I had a 4mm punch biopsy on my nose on Tuesday 28th April for possible squamous cell carcinoma. Procedure was very quick. This is my nose after the two stitches were removed - still
A little red but healing really well.
Good luck with your procedure

V3 ra thanks interesting comment about black salve never heard of it before interestingly it made me think about urea as a treatment as it is used to remove skin cells. Afraid I am a lateral thinker. Interestingly back in the 1970 s it was trialed with a fair degree of success. Not that I am advocating that either. If needed again will stick to the experts

I had MOHs surgery for a skin cancer on my nose in November. First, I had the biopsy, after local anaesthetic. It wasn’t painful. I had two stitches. Again, for the Moh’s surgery, I had local anaesthetic. For cosmetic purposes, it wasn’t stitched. I had the dressing changed twice a week at my local surgery for the following six weeks. It has healed pretty well. Close up , a small mark can be seen, but this can be camouflaged with foundation.
Moh’s surgery is a procedure where tissue is removed, then examined. The results can be seen after about two hours. If it’s found that there is still evidence of cancer in the tissue, the process will be repeated, and may even have to be done a third time. I only had to have it done once. This process apparently tends to stop the return of the cancer more readily than the more traditional method.

I have two friends who have had skin cancer on their nose. They both had surgery which involved removing the cancer and having a skin graft. This was done by bringing skin from the forehead down over the nose to cover where the cancer was removed. Its not the prettiest of sights at the start but everything soon starts to heal and look normal. Now I can't see where their cancers were.
