Mammogram recall

Just a little update in the hope it can be reassuring for others. At the recall appointment they did further mammograms, an ultrasound and a thorough physical examination. I then got the all clear thankfully. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I just have to go through the follow up process the same as everyone else. I am such a catastrophiser. Will let you know.

I was recalled once due to an 'inexperienced' reader of mammograms. I googled how much more radiation would have go through my breasts as a result and phoned to discuss it. I was then told not to worry, someone else had had a look and all was well. I wasn't very impressed at our local service.

Always follow up a recall. I had one, I needed another mammogram and an ultra sound. A DCIS was discovered. The cancer was removed and I have been cancer free for 17 years. The specialist informed me that without the mammogram I wouldn't have felt the lump for at least 3 years by which time the cancer would have spread. My mammograms are always painful, large lumpy breasts but I never miss the three year check up. A few minutes of discomfort is worth it, it might save your life.

The cancer MAY have spread.....no specialist can accurately predict whether DCIS will go on the become invasive enough to spread ( a quick review of the literature will show you this) ....I think on a forum such as this it is wise not to give inaccurate information about serious health issues

I’ve never been well endowed, and have had some extremely uncomfortable mammograms, too.

I’ve often thought that, if men had to undergo regular checks which involved squeezing their balls between two metal plates, they’d pretty bloody soon find another way to do it.

It's worth a bit of discomfort for peace of mind though isn't it? it's the same with smear tests but aren't we lucky we get these tests, so many women in the past didn't get them and paid the price.
I had a call back recently and although I was worried, I went back for further tests. It turned out to be a cyst which was treated and I went off happy

If they say it’s ’unclear’, then that sounds the reason for the recall.

Hope it goes ok, I think the operator makes all the difference.

As with many things.

I had an unusually painful mammogram on 8 June. The operator was rough with me and hurried. I have been recalled on 21 July as the image was unclear. Slightly worried. Just wondering if Sheba has any update regarding her recall.

Please go.. I appreciate it's painful but if there was something dodgy in there it would be a much worse outcome.

They had new kit when I last went it was much better not so painful, I don't have big boobs either, it it's grin and bare it situation.

Following my experiences and reading this I really wonder about the machine sizes being fit for purpose. I seems to be one size must fit all. Hopefully all well on second try but horrible worrying time.

My recall was fine just a bad picture. Doesn’t stop you worrying though. Hope all will be ok with you

I’m small breasted too and yes, mammograms are often uncomfortable, but not had bruising like you describe.

I would definitely keep the appointment though. They say the pictures aren’t clear, but it must be worth the discomfort to know that things are ok.

You were perhaps unlucky with whoever did your mammogram, and the next one will be easier.
