I’ve got Cystitis and have had a horrible week.

That is hopeless.
Last time I had this I rang the surgery, they put me through to the nurse practitioner who prescribed 3 days of antibiotics which were dispensed straight away and I went and picked them up.
This is acrural dispensing practice. It takes me 35 minutes to get there, which is a pain but it was treated same day.

You can also buy over the counter remedies hat you always straight away.

Luckily luckygirl the surgery is only 5mins away. I went up three times last week. I thought my NHApp wasn’t working.

Had those , got the t-shirt. I think that’s why it didn’t develop into a more serious infection.

Have you tried cranberry juice ?
I used to suffer dreadfully with cystitis, constantly being prescribed antibiotics, then read something about cranberry juice being a cure and haven’t had cystitis since I started drinking it, 40 years free of it now !!

Cranberry did nothing for me Sheba but it can’t harm it’s a lovely drink
Mine stopped completely when two things happened and I don’t know which it was
a) I gave up on men and what goes onwith them
b) I passed the menopause
It stopped completely maybe both things, or maybe one or the other, who knows but I m very thankful

Cranberry juice doesn't work for me, but it does for my friend so it can't do any harm to try. How much do you need to drink?

Please get D-Mannose from a health food shop. I take one sachet every night and one immediately I feel UTI coming on. It’s brilliant. Really works for me.

Do you think that’s a scientific conclusion?

If you are over the age to buy OTC remedies for yourself you could either get a younger friend or neighbour or lie or and say it’s for your daughter. (Preferably a chemist where you are not known!)

I used to get cystitis regularly, and at the very first sign, I’d go and buy some of the sachets you can get in supermarkets, a 2 day course of 2-3 liquid doses a day.
They’d sort it out very fast.

Only once did I need antibiotics, and that was when we were on holiday in Cyprus and I was unable to find those sachets, or similar, anywhere. So it was several days before I saw a GP back home.
Nowadays I never go anywhere without a course of those sachets.

When I had cystitis that became quite severe on Good Friday I knew my surgery would be closed till Tuesday.
I got in touch with an online doctor. I had to answer a lot of questions but they sent a prescription to my phone the same day.
Had to pay of course but it was worth it to get treated earlier.

This came on during the weekend so by Monday I had no doubts about the symptoms. I expect that many of you know what its like.
I took a sample up to the Dr’s and expected to get antibiotics quite quickly. It’s taken until today, 8 days later and I can go and get my prescription this afternoon!
I was at the end of my tether this morning so started googling antibiotics on line. I found a list of conditions that pharmacists can prescribe for and I thought the list might be useful to you.
However, like me, you may be too old! The local Pharmacist said he would like to help but….
I then went back to the surgery where, apparently, they have had my test results for 24 hours, the Dr. hadn’t looked at them He has obviously never had cystitis!
Off now to have another glass of lemon barley water. I’ve been drinking for England!

I had what turned out to be a urine infection a while ago. It struck on a Friday and I thought I could stave it off with powders from the chemist, but of course it got worse, and the pharmacist wouldn't give me ABs as I am over 60 (or is it 65?). I spoke to a GP on the Monday, and was told I should have reported it as soon as it began (I know - they don't have to make appointments. . .) as they can become serious very quickly.

So why put so many obstacles in the way?

Me too. I don’t get the awful bouts of cystitis that I used to get post menopause but my IBS sometimes triggers it. I wouldn’t be without d mannose; in fact I even keep some in my handbag. I do buy the one without cranberry though: Waterfall. They deliver really fast, too, as they know how desperate people are for it.

I took HRT as long as I could but they stopped producing the tablet I was on and although I tried one or two other options I gave up.

Do you have a walk in within reach. I have one in the next town and just went and waited till they saw me and prescribed.

Vagarix as a pessary has just about seen off my frequent UTIs. On prescription from the GP.

Nitrofuritoin? I think it's called the doctor prescribed for me. He said over the counter treatments are not great if you have blood pressure. It only took a few days to clear the symptoms up. I tend to drink lots of fruit teas and waters to keep my system flushed out.

That’s what I have now. I drink a lot too but have really imbibed gallons this week. No 🥂🍷though. Well I did say I’d had an awful week!

Good grief, I’m guessing there is a good reason, but even so, I’m shocked.

I guess, unopened, this will keep for some time, worth keeping some in the house
