Has anyone else noticed their energy levels change as they've got older?

I am 83 in September, I am really struggling in this hot weather I have very little energy, there is a long list of things that need doing in the house and garden. I think I have to give in and get a cleaner to help with the heavier jobs such as cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, I have always managed everything myself even when I was working and it is hard to admit I need help. For the first time I have considered trying energy drinks but they have such a bad press I haven’t succumbed. It doesn’t help that my cousin died last Sunday, we were very close she was like a sister to me and it has hit me hard.

Of course our energy levels aren’t what they were.
It’s called ageing and every organism does it.

We all know that! but it still takes me by surprise.

Yes! I am sat knackered after doing too much this morning which was dusting 3 rooms plus hall. Hoovering right the way through. Washing kitchen floor, washing with special floor stuff all the parquet. Hanging out 2 lines of washing, ironing the bedding, making the bed, cooking two meals (thinking of something easy tonight) and finally put away the shopping delivery.

I have finally given in after resisting since I retired, to re-employ a cleaner, which I always had when working, but felt I needed the exercise after retiring. Hopefully she will start on Monday. I am now 80 and have decided to keep my energy for stuff I really like doing, like gardening, walking etc.

Yes, me too, same as Terribull, I have an underactive thyroid, which makes it worse.I always fall asleep after dinner. I don't want to go anywhere now.

I'd give my right arm for energy, that disappeared when I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid. I remember my late mother lamenting "something's missing, vitality" well she was in her eighties at the time. I've felt that increasingly for the past 20 years or so early 70s now. I have my afternoon sit down to watch Escape to the Country...I'm usually gone by house number 2

I am pleased if I get one task done per day when once I could carry on until I dropped.
There ought to be a happy medium.

I don’t have anywhere near the energy I once had. After a busy day I need to rest the following day. It’s frustrating. I don’t want to spend much time in company any more either. A couple of hours is about my limit.

Me too monica lots of plans I make for the following day regarding household chores. Achieving one or two and that's me worn out. Changing the bed and putting on a fresh duvet leaves me exhausted. I find having athritis in the hands a real problem for doing that particular job

I'm OK day to day at home doing ordinary activities but find I'm shattered and with no energy if I'm on holiday. I suppose I do more on holiday but I'm embarrassed at how feeble I seem.

I used to be like the Duracell bunny, still rushing around when everyone else had collapsed exhausted. Now, at 82, and hour or two of moderate effort - and that is it for the day or I will be exhausted the following day.

I find this so frustrating bcause my mind has not caught up with my body and as I lie in bed in the morning, I plan a day of activity: getting some cleaning done, do some painting (we are doingup our down-sized propert)y, then plan shopping and gardening and a quiet evening making curtains.

When I go to bed, and of those 5 activities, I will have managed 2, the rest of the day I am sat around recovering from the items I have done.

Yep I’ve been so tired since I went on weight loss injections. I can’t wait to go to bed at night. Then I find I am over tired & can’t sleep.
