Always so tired

Today for example I have got up at 7.30, cleaned the fridge, vacuumed the house, watered garden with bath water (!), made breakfast and washed up, put on some washing and I already feel tired! I’m 71. I plan to go swimming later and will swim for an hour. I don’t sleep well, but surely feeling so wiped out isn’t normal? I’ve had bloods taken and all well in that area, so not anaemic

You're just showing off aren't you? 😇😂

I was tempted to think that, too!

Honestly, you've already been pretty active before you've even got to the pool! Cleaning, vacuuming, gardening, cooking, washing up... that's a lot to get done in a morning.

The poor sleep would catch my attention, though. It's easy to keep adding more activity and forget that your body needs time to recover too.

I'd look at the whole picture- sleep, food, hydration, stress, and how much you're doing during the day. If you're feeling this wiped out regularly, especially if it's something new, I'd mention it to your doctor rather than just trying to push through it.

And don't feel guilty about taking some downtime. Rest is part of staying healthy too.

Good morning all, from Glasgow, nowhere it is 10°C.

Yesterday, I took DH to Mass, but didn't potter about and follow my usual routine, because DH was waiting.
While he was waiting for me, he had a stroll around the beautiful church grounds and a look at the restoration work.
So many people (he only knew by sight) said, they were glad to see him,

Today, we have a GP telephone consultation, I have a list as long as your arm!

My other job is to look for two missing different black sandals.sandals. I have no idea where they are! 😕

Bellas, enjoy your sleepover.

Roses, I hope your DH steps up and does as he is asked.
Remember, you are post surgery, take things slowly.

Have a good day, folks.

Sorry, wrong thread!

Yesterday went shopping early back home by 10 and all put away. Then I prepared fresh veg for freezing....live alone so trying to not end up with food being thrown away.....then did some hand washing and prepared a salad for my lunch. Sat down for a drink promptly fell asleep woke just before 1pm in time to quickly eat my lunch and to get ready to go visit a friend in a care home. I agree this warm weather drains energy and we all need to drink lots and take it a bit easier.

Farmor15 Tue 11-Aug-26 08:54:03

Sallywally - do you ever take a nap after lunch, especially if your sleep has been poor the previous night?

Yesterday morning I was busy till about 12, then felt rather tired, but had more things I wanted to do. I had lunch, put my feet up on the bed and read for a while. When I felt sleepy, closed my eyes and slept soundly for about 1/2 hour. After that, and a cup of coffee, I had enough energy to go out and cut a beech hedge- up and down ladder with electric cutter!

As others have suggested, don't try to do too much in one go.

Now I'm about to start on today's jobs- lots to do as various family visiting for past 3 weeks and more guests in a week!

Madgran77 Tue 11-Aug-26 10:49:12

Might want to pace yourself a bit and not squeeze so much into one day!

Wyllow3 Tue 11-Aug-26 11:01:45

I have a degree of chronic fatigue so its slowly does it, but the heat does have an effect, no doubt at all.

I think you have done loads and it's heating up now.

I loved the "just thinking about it" idea. ☺️

Wyllow3 Tue 11-Aug-26 11:03:45

Anyone else find like me they get active more about 8pm when it cools down? I often do a wash then ready to put out in the morning or do a spot of tidying etc.

Siestas are top advice.

MayBee70 Tue 11-Aug-26 11:14:43

I’ve always woken up at 9pm. The kids used to ask me if I was nocturnal ( I think I must be; I’m not a morning person). I do suffer from motivational tiredness. The dog always wakes me up at 7. When I’ve fed her and let her out into the garden I usually go back to sleep ( I had enough of getting up at seven when I was at work; annoyingly she gets up at seven because my partner gets up at seven and when she’s with him she gets into the routine). But this morning when I went into the garden there were some parakeets in one of the trees. I’ve never seen them in the garden before and was so excited I forgot to be tired and was buzzing for ages afterwards. Paying for it now, though, and think I’m going to nod off on the sofa.

I've done very little in this hot weather as I feel faint and dizzy when the temperature goes above 25C. Plus I have a lung condition so get quite breathless at times. I'm adopting the mañana approach tomorrow is another day and nobody died from a bit of dust here and there.

AuntieE Tue 11-Aug-26 14:14:42

I felt tired just reading your post!

No, seriously, unless like me you adore temperatures over 26 degrees centigrade , it may be the heat affecting you.

Also if you are not sleeping well, that will make you tired. If poor sleep is a new thing, consider how old your pillow and mattress are and if you are waking up with a headache or feeling snivelly. A memory foam pillow got rid of my headache in the morning and stiff neck in the course of three days. And a blocked nose in the morning is a sign that I really must dust my bedroom!

Give yourself a few days, only doing what you feel like, rather than a lot of things you feel you ought to do, and see if that helps.

You are sure you are getting sufficient fluids in the heat, and that you also are not just flushing all your salt intake out, aren
t you?

I'm on a weeks holiday from work and just trying to feel a bit more rested ( really bad sleeper)
At 77 doing an early morning cleaning job, I do about 20 hours a week but often do more. I enjoy the job and the money about doubles my frugal income but my body is telling me I need to retire. I certainly would like more time with the family and long distance partner...I was widowed young...and get back to cleaning my own house a bit better, even cooking properly, and enjoying the pets. The heat is exhausting, it affects some of the medication a lot of us take apparently!
Today I watered the plants, with a watering can, cleaned my elderly (20) cats litter trays, took up the hems of 2 maxi dresses, watched 2 films on TV while sewing. Will pop to the shops and rustle up dinner for my daughter who lives with me, then more watering, have my tablets and give the house bunny her medicine. Then it's the Sewing bee on TV. Quite a nice day really! X

4allweknow Tue 11-Aug-26 14:52:46

Nearly 80 and I can go with your programme. I am a terrible sleeper, in bed 12.30 up at 2.30 am having look out window. Back to bed, read, slept until 5.15 and wide awake. Read again until 7.15 then up to get on with the day. The heat is not affecting me, not living in a heatwave area. It's just me, 2 mile walk this afternoon, tea and scone with friends, cut back garden grass and thats it for today. Had painters in last week and they asked where all these pensioners who sit about watching tv are as the one in this house doesn't. If you don't use it you lose it!

Gypsyqueen13 Tue 11-Aug-26 14:53:28

I agree with you! The heat is exhausting me at the moment!

Franbern Tue 11-Aug-26 15:00:52

I kept going to GP saying how tired I was so much of the time. GP kept putting it down to my age.
I actually kept a diary which showed I had just five or six functioning hours in each 24. Would be in bed by9.30 and up by 8.00 am. Cereal and tea brekkie then i would fall asleep for another hour -light lunch at midday and then sleep for between two to three hours after that. Tea at 5 and sleep for an hour.
I would fall asleep at meetings. It was horrible
Turned out I had severe sleep apnoea - when this was finally diagnosed and i was given a CPAP machine to wear every night in bed, everything changed very quickly.
Now I am up by 7.30, after my lunch usually have a 20-30 minute nap, then my tea at 5.00 and in bed by 10.00 (reading until 11.00 ).
So, if you are unduly tired, you do need to talk to your GP.

Good for you! Sounds my kind of morning! And I'm sure that you're happier for it than Sallywally1 appears to be.

There's no reason why anyone's chores should take them much more than an hour a day if spread out wisely over a 5-day week

Then just do what the hell you like and enjoy - or nothing.

I have a friend who EVERY evening WhatsApps me with an hour by hour list of all the chores and jobs she's done that day (usually with photographs!!) and then ends with how tired and ill she feels (even saying on some occasions that if she doesn't feel better mid evening she's going to call 122!).

I never ever comment on what she's written but reply in a more lighthearted way with perhaps just one thing of my day that might be interesting.

She's been like this for the 40+ years that I've known her. I think she has an Inferiority Complex and a need to impress. She was the same with her Dsd who was always dismissive of her and favoured her rather unpleasant sister.

For goodness sake people lighten up a d relax. You've earned it

.

I am 80 years old and I am tired every single day, no matter what I do.
I have to force myself to go out and join things.
I gave up yoga this year as it left me feeling knackered and drained.

This morning I attended a Pilates class for the over 60’s.
I enjoyed it as needed some stretching out.
But again, I am tired out.
Poor sleeping too doesn’t help.

Oh well.! We must plod on

A full blood count doesn't usually include Vitamin D check. If you're avoiding the sun due to the heat you're vit D level may be depleted. Tiredness, insomnia and a host of other symptoms can be caused by vit D deficiency. Though when l was very deficient l couldn't have done what you've already done today.

Was going to say the same thing. I had an incident that involved me being carted off in an ambulance. Apart from a little heart problem I was very short of Vit D and had to have an intensive course of VitD. I continue to take a daily dose and it dose seem to have helped.

Just my thoughts!
I believe in pacing myself, accepting that each year I shall slow down a bit more.
None of us are immortal and you don't want to make yourself ill.

I don't think there is anything the matter with you Sallywally

Are you serious?

Today I got up and had a shower. Had some breakfast.

Picked up my pad.

I might do some knitting in a moment……….

Oh I put my sheets into wash.

No wonder I’m exhausted 🤣🤣🤣

I wondered if this was a serious post too!
