Dental teeth cleaning 😬

Im going this afternoon at 3.30pm.

Hate it, my teeth are sensitive so i lay in the chair totally screwed up waiying for the oww!

I hate it too, so put it off for as long as possible.

Yes, I find the cleaning procedure far worse than anything else. I turn stiff and stop breathing due to the grinding down. It never used to be so horrible. I take painkillers an hour before but not sure if they work.

The grinding is definitely the worst, my dentist is a nice enough chap and stops frequently to ask if I’m ok, to which I nod, though to be honest am far from ok but just want it over with.

It’s got better at my dentist now - he used to use some horrible cold water implement I hated on my sensitive teeth - he’s now got one that uses warm water!
I used to tell him it was akin to a Gestapo torture…👿

I hate it too, so put it off for as long as possible.

I did put off going to the dentist for so long that I got a really bad tooth which resulted in an abscess so I keep up with appointments now. But I totally understand why you hold off going.

Ah will mention that next time. The water is always cold when I get mine cleaned.

I have my teeth cleaned by the hygienist manually, no drill cleaning I am a total wuss.

Reminder that I’ve got to make an appointment for this tortuous treatment soon.

I have it put in my notes that I am a "nervous patient"!

I then get offered a hand hold. Which I sometimes accept! I find it helpful.

I’ve found it’s better to have it done more often. It’s only annual on the NHS for me, so I go four monthly, and pay to have them done, I hate it but it’s a much easier experience because the plaque is less . I’ve got crowded teeth at the bottom.

I’ve had the best and the worst. Tye worst was like a scene from The Boys from Brazil.
I had my last one done at a different dentist. Didn’t feel a thing.

I actually like it, especially the lovely clean feeling. I don’t like fillings, though and especially the needles that precede them. Even worse is the bill afterwards !

I always seemed to lose a filling after a scrape and polish but my NHS dentist no longer does them. Although he does cram as much into my allocated 15 minutes as possible. I, too, have sensitive teeth and it’s a real Marathon Man few minutes…

I have a hand scale.

After this afternoon, I have told my hygienist that I would never crack under torture- obvs after todays experience.

I go every three months usually, but I was ill snd cancelled and then he was ill and cancelled, so it has been 6 months.

I think he was mining for gold!

Think it depends who does it. There have been some horrible experiences when I’ve left shaking. The last two with a new hygienist have been painless and comfortable. Same process. It’s certainly not that my teeth have suddenly become pristine!

My hygienist always applies a sedative gel before she starts the procedure. Makes such a difference.

I hate going to the Dentist 😫

All these people saying they hate visiting the dentist - imagine the stress on your dentists knowing how people feel about them.

Oh they love it kitty - clearly a masochistic lot😄😄

I have local anaesthetic before a clean otherwise I wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.

At one time the suicide rate among dentists was the second highest occupational group.
