Anyone else had this recently ? I’ve been ill three days now and it’s absolutely floored me. We’ve been invited to book our covid jabs for the first time since autumn 24 we’re under 75.
Makes you wonder why their including the younger age group this time.

I wouldnt dream of spreading covid around to others.

Like I say with a cold, if I was due to go somewhere, "I have a cold. Is it still ok to come"?

Fallingstar Fri 28-Aug-26 12:04:12

I still test because I care full time for my DH who has many health conditions and got pneumonia when he got Covid in hospital. If I did get it I might not be able to stop him getting it but I could try my best and be on high alert for his condition worsening.

The Covid test kits I had are long out of date.
How have people been testing for Covid?

Fallingstar Fri 28-Aug-26 16:55:18

Send off for a testing kit online.

Fallingstar Fri 28-Aug-26 16:55:29

I use Amazon

I bought one from Boots that had a really short use by date but then bought some from various supermarkets and Home Bargains. Much cheaper and with a much longer use by date.I think I bought one from the Coop.

You’ve made me think? Cough bit of a cold hot and cold just keeps hanging about…. Maybe?

Greyduster Fri 28-Aug-26 19:18:54

Having more or less got rid of all my symptoms, which started with a sore throat on the 18th, I tested this morning and it was negative. After such a short time, I would imagine that if it had been covid it would still have shown a residual positive reading. If it wasn’t Covid, it is the worst bout of anything I’ve had since I did actually have covid a couple of years ago.

This has made me think. I had a very bad sore throat about a month ago. I’ve had a dry tickle cough ever since. I never thought about Covid at all. We have been away staying with family in Dorset and Devon so now I must contact them all and tell them to test themselves. What a worry. My cough is dry tickle and wheezy.

Greyduster my symptoms started with a sore throat on 19th. I first tested on the 21st and was positive each day till I tested on Wednesday, (26th), and was negative. Not sure if this helps but you did mention earlier your symptoms were the same as mine and my period of testing positive was relevantly short. I hope your daughter is OK.

To be honest, it never occurred to me to test until I read this thread. I just thought it was a very bad cold. We’ll never know now. DD is getting better. She’s had a lot of anxiety recently and I think that has just caused her to be run down and susceptible to infection. She’s normally a very fit long distance runner!

I have been invited for a flu jab. The small print stated that I will be offered the Covid one when I attend.

If you turn 75 during the vaccination period, I think you get offered it.

So probably if your birthday is by the end of this year maybe?

🤷‍♀️

I'm decided this year not to have the covid jab didn't have one last year either or the flu jab have been seeing lots of negative posts about these jabs especially the covid one so will take my chances.

Iam64 Sat 29-Aug-26 11:59:26

I was very ill with flu over the millennium. I was positive for Covid last year, main symptom was being v short of breath. Negative within a week but v tired for several weeks
I’m immune suppressed and getting older / ill risk the jabs

Anrol Mon 31-Aug-26 15:18:24

Please be aware flu vaccine only protects you for 40 odd days.
Our Doctor advised having it during peak flu season which is normally after Christmas.

My husband is always offered a covid jab because he's vulnerable, but I wasn't able to get one at all last year. Thanks to Graphite's post I've been able to book us both in for October - I'm over 75 by the cut-off date this year. I feel very relieved!

Jojo1950 Mon 31-Aug-26 15:34:59

I had Covid last summer. That was the 5th time. A week after that I was in hospital with pneumonia for 3weeks. On lots of medication. Very very poorly.
I have had all the vaccines going!!!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Apparently you need to be 75 by the end of next January to have have the vaccination this year.

Hi it’s six days since I started feeling ill, my test this morning is still showing positive although it’s fainter. The main problem now is the tiredness and lack of strength.
I slept nine hours last night, unheard of for me, then I fell back asleep at lunch time.
I seem to hit a brick wall after tea, and I’m no use to anyone 🙄

Milliedog Mon 31-Aug-26 19:15:59

Anyone who is immuno compromised should stay well away from anyone with Covid. If you have covid symptoms, please get tested. I'm immuno compromised and can't have the vaccination as the last 2 shots affected my heart.

JoyBloggs Mon 31-Aug-26 19:45:05

Erica... not sure if this is any comfort to you.... It's now 10 days since I first tested positive, 5 days since I tested negative and I'm still feeling very weary much of the time, so unfortunately tiredness seems to be par for the course. Like you, I have been in bed much longer than usual, but I'm still tired when I get up.

I would like to book myself into an old-fashioned convalescent home for 2 or 3 days and just do absolutely nothing! I went straight from being unwell myself to worrying about/caring for DH who was very ill with it and I thought might end up in hospital. Since then I've been trying unsuccessfully to catch up on a big backlog of domestic stuff. It's no fun... my previous experience of Covid was nothing by comparison. I'm not normally a lounger-arounder but I am at the moment!

Hopefully this will pass, I know many people on Gransnet have much more serious long-term conditions and I consider myself lucky to normally be a busy, lively old fogey!

Erica23 Mon 31-Aug-26 20:15:13

Joy. The convalescence home sounds great, I’ll book us both in 🤪 I can understand the worry about your DH thank goodness he’s on the mend too. The washing was piling up so had to make a start on that, luckily DH can iron do he’s done all that this morning.
Everything is hard work at the moment. But at least we’re on the mend, I’ve been much worse this time than in April’23 when I had it last time although I have the same symptoms.
I haven’t heard of anyone else with it yet 🤞 It says my area Yorkshire and London have seen increases during the last week

Iam64 Mon 31-Aug-26 20:20:02

I caught Covid last April, away on a course where I was sure two of our twelve had Covid. I tried to keep a distance but wish I’d simply left. 8 of us tested positive within days but the two spreaders didn’t test
Im imune compromised, I was exhausted, v short of breath for a week then several weeks to recovery
I wish testing was still advised, with isolation when positive

JoyBloggs Mon 31-Aug-26 20:21:40

Erica I'm packing my bag! Maybe find a posh place in the Lake District with a nice view of water and mountains?
