My hubby is 76. He had the vax Saturday and had a heart attack during the night Sunday. I am having difficulty seeing this as a coincidence. He has had lots a vaccinations before all through the pandemic and never any problem. Now he is in hospital but quite bright. I am not in great health so must muster myself to do the necessary.

My partner had a heart attack, randomly,3½ years ago. Luckily, I was there to call the ambulance and do chest compressions.

He had never had a flu jab. He has had them since,as his heart attack made him eligible, but hasn't had another heart attack.

Honestly, I can understand you making the link but it's as false as my link that I should have already left to go to an evening class when my partner had his and not being able to bring myself to go any more.

I'm so sorry to hear that, wish him well!
I had both flu and Covid jabs on Saturday, had to do my cleaning job Sunday and didn't feel well at all! Come Monday I was back to normal so that's me done for another year.

I am 76. I had the same vax Thursday. I didn't have a "heart attack".

I hope your husband recovers quickly and makes the lifestyle changes to prevent another cardiac episode.

How do you know the OP’s husband needs to make any lifestyle changes?

BlueBelle Tue 06-Oct-26 14:21:24

undines you so not know that, you are scare mongering and it is unfair to do so.
Do what you want for yourself, but do not tell others that they will become unwell, when there is no proof at all

Along with lots of other local oldies, my partner and I had a Covid jab (Moderna Spikevax) in the left arm and a flu jab in the right arm 2 days ago. This time we both had a stronger reaction than usual, but short-lived — aching arms and about 24 hours of flu-like symptoms. I’m fine now, and my partner, who’s had two types of cancer and still has various health issues, is doing OK too. I don’t doubt that some people do have seriously adverse reactions to jabs like these, but it’s basically a risk worth taking, as is the case with any kind of surgery.

People over 75 are currently being vaccinated. People over 75 have heart attacks. Obviously these will sometimes coincide and, when they do, yes it’s difficult not to suspect a connection.

I suspect an anti-vax stance will not be sensible though.

(And you knew all this already. Best wishes to him for a full recovery.)

Sorry to hear your husband had a heart attack Sueinkent that must have been a shock and very worrying. I hope he makes a good recovery.
I'm unsure about the link with covid vaccine and other illnesses, there are a lot of conspiracy theories around. I would think the chances of this being coincidental is higher as we get older and more prone to these things.

Bestgrammaever was there really any need to put the words heart attack in inverted commas?

Sueinkent Tue 06-Oct-26 15:59:05

Spoke to the cardiologist today and asked him if it could be related. He said it is possible but there is no way of telling. The vaccine was Moderna but he also had the flu vaccine at the same time.
I am inclined towards coincidence but wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience and it seems so. I am due my jabs in a couple of weeks and am mulling it over

You could ask your surgery what type of Covid vaccine was used, and report it under the Yellow card system. They collect data on possible side effects to different drugs, you can do it online.
Hope he makes a good recovery.

Yes I intend to report it under the yellow card.

What lifestyle does he live?

granfromafar Tue 06-Oct-26 16:04:33

The difficulty is that as he had 2 different vaccines at the same time, if there was a link with either, it would be impossible to say which one was the culprit.

Just sending all good wishes to your husband for a full and speedy recovery Sueinkent

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to your husband Sueinkent. I had a severe reaction to the third Covid injection and had bilateral pulmonary embolisms. The hospital doctor tried to convince me that it was coincidence but I remain unconvinced. Several other people had the same experience.

Did he have the Astra Zeneca vaccine?

Patsy70 Tue 06-Oct-26 19:11:30

Sueinkent I do hope your husband makes a full recovery from his heart attack. I also had the ‘flu and COVID vaccinations on Saturday and apart from an achy left arm where I had the COVID jab, I feel fine and keeping busy doing normal things. I am 79 and also live in Kent.
However, I agree that it would be good to check to see if the vaccinations could have triggered the heart attack.

Sorry about your husband hope he'll soon be well again.
You can download the NHS App England and have access to.all your medical history what Covid and Flu vaccines you.have been given.
I've had 3 covid jabs but the last one was mRNA (google it and also on Youtube Dr John Campbell) so I'm not having anymore also the latest flu jab is mRNA instead of the old type so I won't be having that again either.

I’ve just looked this up on AI. mRNA flu vaccine has been approved for use in the US but NOT in the UK.

We’ve decided to only have the flu jab this time. There are reports of bad reactions to the Covid jab but I think it is a small percentage which is true of any medication. There could be a connection in your dh’s case and he will have to think carefully about having any more. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Sue, I wish you and your husband well. Sounds like you gave a good cardiologist.

There is some information from the British Heart Foundation on this link, I hope it helps you make your mind up re your own vaccination.

I had the first three Covid jabs and almost immediately felt really bad. Was told by doctor it was just coincidence. I decided not to have any more, despite all the medical evidence to the contrary I know how I felt.
Very sorry for those had had a rare reaction to it and make a full recovery.

The UK's autumn 2026 COVID-19 vaccination programme runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, using updated mRNA and protein-based vaccines.
