Swelling between knuckles

I'm not sure how clear it is from the picture but for the past 6/7 months, I've had swelling on both hands mainly between the first and middle knuckles.

It's a little uncomfortable and can be tender if pressed. There's no changes in movement, it's not painful with movement, no redness etc.

My G.P can't advise anything and all blood tests have returned with no indications re' the cause.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I get similar swelling on my hands and my feet. I have osteoarthritis so just put the swelling down to that.
Over the years I have become so used to it that I ignore the swelling.
Perhaps this is the cause of your swelling? smile

Yes I agree it could be osteoarthritis. I have swelling on my fingers and some are bent and starting to go in different directions. Perhaps revisit your GP for further investigation.

Yes, I have swelling, rather tender white lumps, which have just come up on a couple of fingers. I wondered if the cause was doing a lot of crocheting!

Allira those sound like Heberden's nodes. They are a form of osteoarthritis, I have them on some of my fingers. I too crochet, but I don't think that had anything to do with the nodes forming.
I am also developing a bouchard's node on my middle fingers. Not really painful but a bit stiff.

Thanks, * MiniMoon*, I will look it up! smile

One did appear on an index finger when I started crocheting and another one has appeared on a little finger now I've started again, but it could just be coincidence.

No, they're not Heberden's nodes.

They are on the side and white fluid-filled lumps.

Perhaps ganglions or mucous cysts. Also caused by osteo-arthritis!

They used to bash them with a Bible years ago, I think, but that sounds a bit drastic.

I have the same swelling on both hands. I have noticed it for at least the past 6 years. The swelling is not painful and is not pitting. I see a rheumatologist as I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 6 years ago. I was also (mis)diagnosed by another rheumatologist. I recently saw a vascular doctor bc several drs have said I had venous insufficiency in my left leg however ultrasounds in both legs several weeks ago showed veins are in good shape. Next step- lymphatic therapist. I am going to ask if the hand swelling might be related.
Good luck to you. Will try to remember to post again if I get any info from the lymphatic specialist about the hand swelling.

(Mis) diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

I have it too. I just found out that it is lymphedema. This can get worse. The lower legs can swell, one or both. It can become extremely painful in larger areas depending on the amount of swelling. It's time to eat mainly veggies.
