Cordless vacuum cleaners

The dyson animal does what it says but it is so ugly ,clumsy looking. It always runs out of power as I am dong a quick whisk round. I don't like to leave it on charge al the time

The Dyson DC34 is pretty good, although 'cordless' and 'power' are two words you generally don't find in the same sentence. The DC34 lasts around 15 mins and is of moderate power. Most other cordless vacuum cleaners aren't really that powerful. I'd invest in a lightweight vacuum cleaner as per my other post today.

Took a series of pictures of the box and will use that in conjunction . Ah yes saving money. It was best part of £300.

They can use one set of universal picture instructions for any language - saves them translating it all. Time and money!

My animal arrived this afternoon and I think I like it but what's with the picture instructions to put it together ? Have we stopped being able to read?The clearest pictures are on the back of the box- one foot wide by three feet long. Am I supposed to keep that for future reference? I think I will take a photo of the box and keep it on the ipad.it also came ready charged which surprised me.

Its fine on edges as it seems to somehow reach those. As a to a real tight corner, it won't do those. But, I've bought this to do regular daily 'once overs' rather than for the weekly/fortnightly deep clean thingies.

I thought about the Air Ram, but wondered about its ability to get into corners. I ended up with the Dyson DC44 as so many other grans were happy with it and so am I now. I do have a Gtech rechargeable floor sweeper which is amazingly good at picking up almost everything.

Gtech Air Ram has arrived and am getting used to it after years of heavy 'hoovers'. Its quite different, needs emptying more often and is a rechargaeable unit. However, as I cant cope well with weighty things nowadays its turning out to be ideal. It picks up well, is quiet and does not frighten the animals!

I have a handheld Dyson Animal. I use it for the stairs, skirting boards and the car. The suction is great for cats' hairs, but a full charge only lasts for about 10-15 minutes.

I have never used my ordinary vacuum cleaner since the Dyson DC44 arrived. It's brilliant: efficient, easy to use/empty etc. I have a mix of wooden/carpeted and tile floors and it just does a fantastic job on all of them. The filter gets washed in cold water once a month and that's it for maintenance.

Hello, we are just in the process of buying a Gtech Air Ram cordless.....'Which' are pretty enthusiastic about it and its had a lot of positive feedback on both Amazon and John Lewis - so fingers crossed!

I agree with when, the Animal is great for stairs and so easy to carry around. I hardly use my Henry now, although I didn't go mad with it before!

I use the DC44 more than my main Dyson now. I got it free for trying and reviewing it. Once a week, I run the main Dyson over the sitting room carpet, as that gets most use, but the rest of the time I use the cordless. It picks up dog hairs and is great for reaching under furniture and the kitchen table. I can vac downstairs, two bedrooms and the landing in ten minutes, as it's so light.

It's the best vac I've ever had for doing stairs, and I no longer have to lug a heavy vac upstairs. Worth having!

I've wondered how those people who got Dyson animals have liked them long term. I want to buy something lightweight and looked in John Lewis . The assistant struggled with it (she being half my age) which put me off.there is an add for a carpet sweeper which mentions it is stocked both by JL and Lakeland. Has anyone got one? Any feedback welcome as I use a Japanese sticky roll thingy for crumbs and hair but feel I need to upgrade.

I have a black and decker dust buster 12 volt. This is quite good . Charge lasts a long time.

It doesn't replace my dyson for big cleaning but very handy for quick zoom round to pick up bits if someone coming unexpectedly.

I have a Hoover Freejet which is quite good. The charge lasts a long time and it comes apart to become a hand held which is great for doing the stairs. The only complaint I have about it is that it needs to be emptied quite frequently or the suction decreases a bit.

Thanks for you suggextions - I'll check WHICH and the Dyson feedback (I've not had a Dyson - always seem v. expensive).
