Not seen these scouring powders for ages so assume they have been withdrawn. It's a pity because there are times when I wish I still had some. Does anyone know if they can still be got anywhere. Don't say ebay!!

j for a crazy moment I though that you were going to Fleet for a peacock. Did I ever tell you the story of the one that lived on our plot [during the house build?] He used to sit with the builders and share their sandwiches. He would also shadow me around the so-called garden. On more than one occasion he put on his best show...plumage fully extended which he "shimmered" for want of a better word. grin

I've got to go to Fleet on Saturday (need a Peacocks to change a cardi) so I will stock up too. There can't be that many pound shops in Fleet can there?

Buxton1957 Wed 08-Jan-14 15:59:04

Have also had a recent problem getting this product but found it in a Pound store in Fleet so have now stocked up. It is the only thing which will clean my cream coloured sink from tea stains!

Where I live in essex no-one stocks vim/ajax anymore. I used to work for Waitrose until my retirement and they have stopped stocking them. I've tried all other supermarkets in my area, tesco, aldi, lidl and none of them stock them.I'm not a lover of cream cleaners. When I was young there was always a carton of vim in the bathroom, and after your bath(no showers in those days!) the bath had to be cleaned. I have been told the manufacturers are a german company but I'm not sure.
PS just looked on amazon and you can buy it from them!!

They are so good for plug holes.

j08 Mon 22-Jul-13 12:57:26

I can't get either of' em now. Waitrose used to have Ajax but not now. These pastes are all very well but you can't beat a shake powder for convenience.

jimwarren Mon 22-Jul-13 12:53:01

Oh no they don't, certainly within the Woking Guildford area of Surrey

When we were in France last year I found supplies of Ajax and stocked up!

Thistledoo Wed 26-Jun-13 19:31:06

When my son was 3 he decided to be helpful around the house, so while I wHas busy doing something in the kitchen he went quiet, bliss I thought, until I got a whiff of a familiar smell. VIM. I walked into the newly carpeted sitting room to a snow storm of white powder. What are you doing I said in a horrified tone, "I 'm doing Shake and Vak, just like on the Telly. It took ages to hoover the stuff out of the carpet, I never bought Vim or Ajax again. My son is 40 this year. grin

If you have a branch of The Range near you, they have Bar Keepers Friend at £1.99. I stocked up last week!

Speldnan Tue 25-Jun-13 15:28:14

mrsmopp-Chill! my post was supposed to be tongue in cheek! nothing wrong with discussing cleaning products!

jennycockerspaniel Fri 31-May-13 13:43:30

Discussing vim and ajax does not make us any less "intellectual". The beauty of this site is that we can discuss anything at all.
We all can contribute and seek advice on whatever we want.

Or we could have a moderator who could delete any threads that are considered not intellectual enough. Then we would all.leave in droves.
Relax speldnan thete is no harm in a bit of light relief.

Now, who can tell us which is the best washing powder to use??!!

Speldnan Thu 30-May-13 19:21:46

who knew so many of us would be interested in a conversation about cleaning products. Secretly I AM interested but would hate any men to get the wrong idea after reading this thread-there are still too many men who think 'a woman's place is in the home' and I like to think of myself as a feminist who believes women are equal (if not better) than men and that women are interested in more intellectual matters than finding 'Vim' (tongue in cheek of course).
BTW I buy it occasionally in Sainsburys but it is a bit scratchy so I use it as well as the sprays! wink

When I overdid the self tanning lotion and let my heels turn almost black by comparison with my legs and feet, Ajax did the trick. grin

mrsmopp Thu 30-May-13 16:18:54

Petra- what gets so dirty that you have to scour it?

Kids for one thing!

Only kidding - usually the scrubbing brush on its own did the trick. :-)

I dont think todays kids get as mucky as ours did.....

LizG Thu 30-May-13 07:12:15

Living in hard water areas can cause scum which requires a fair amount of scrubbing Petra.

Movedalot Wed 29-May-13 17:21:42

Why do we need so many different products these days? Actually I don't! I use Flash spray (top it up with normal Flash), Domestos Bleach and something else for the worksurface in the kitchen (can't be bothered to go and check what it is) Why would I need all the other stuff?

petra Wed 29-May-13 17:10:23

Can any of you tell me what gets so dirty that you have to scour it.

LizG Mon 27-May-13 07:22:51

Like you Stansgran I always used Flash gel because it was good and easier on the old' arthritic hands when I can't keep working the sprays. I wrote to Flash (not sure but I think it's Lever Bros) and was told it was no longer being made because few people bought it. If you take something off the shelves then it is unlikely people will buy it. Profit before what's best every time for big business I'm afraid.

My first part time job, when I was still at school, was at Woolworths. I had to write the price on tubs of Vim & Ajax and individual rolls of Izal toilet paper. I then had to build a pyramid of toilet rolls! We were on the first floor close to the stairs so we used to "accidently" drop some toilet rolls down the stairs so we could sneak down and have a quick look at the Miners make-up! grin

harrigran Mon 20-May-13 23:40:20

Retuned ? of course I meant returned to pristine condition.

harrigran Mon 20-May-13 23:38:32

Barkeepers friend is a must for modern kitchens, I was worried the first time I spilt curry sauce on my white Corian worktop, but a damp cloth and Barkeepers retuned it to pristine.
When the builder was finished in my second home he tidied up and cleaned the bathroom, sadly he cleaned the brand new plastic bath with a generous amount of Vim. My new bathroom fittings are Villeroy and Boch and nobody gets through the door with cleaning materials unless I have checked them out.
