Halogen Ovens

On the advice of my sister I have just bought a halogen oven - it came today and I plan to use it tomorrow.

My sister says she hasn't used her big oven since last Boxing Day - she uses her halogen oven for everything (there are only two of them). She bought one for her DD, who equally loves it and uses it all the time.

Have GNs got experience of these ovens and if so can they give any advice or tips?

If your oven is one of the round table top one yes, They are excellent. whole chickens are great in them 30min each side, half way through put par boiled potatoes in, just dunk in the fat and put them on the rack so they are not sitting in it, excellent for any meat that splashes and they are easy to clean

Yes it is a round table-top one hebridean and I have got a chicken for my first try tomorrow! When you say "each side" doe that mean you do it breast side down first then turn it on its back for the second half? (If that makes sense)

Yes that's what I do, use 200 temp for about 45min then 250. all the fat comes out its really healthy

My daughter bought us one for Christmas a few years ago, we love it. Up until now it`s been solely for use in the caravan on holiday, where it`s ben a godsend, but after we sell the van it will come into it`s own here at home.

I love mine for doing meat and jacket potatoes but not so keen for doing Pizza or cooking a pie as I find I need to protect the top from the heat. They are OK for scones and they cook in the same time but look slightly different.
When doing a casserole I do use a dish inside the machine and try to put most things in/ on a dish to save washing up the big bowl each time. I find it very convenient and it is good to be ale to see how things are cooking. It is very useful for extra oven space when catering for a crowd.
