Do you hang them up on the line/indoor airer in pairs, or just higgledy-piggledy, and then sort them out on the bed or table before you put them away in the drawers?

I do the second method, but I wonder if is the most efficient timewise.

I care about deflyping school tights! Big time! wink

I mean I care about NOT deflyping them.

My DH is also a slow learner re de-flypeing.

gracesmum Wed 16-Oct-13 21:12:13

Does anybody care?

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:06:56

She's being a slow learner about sock de-flyping hmm

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:06:18

I make Minibags unflype her own. I just fling them back in her room if they are too flypey to handle/wash.

j08 Wed 16-Oct-13 21:02:45

grin They wouldn't dry very well if they were still flyped up.

Grandmanorm Wed 16-Oct-13 21:01:05

I had never heard that word "flype" Thank you jo8 for the link to its meaning.
I pair socks up and hang them in the linen cupboard as it is warm there. Also drape underwear there to dry!!!!

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 20:00:55

Thanks for the link J08 grin Should have thought about the translation bit. Anyhoo, when DH gets there, tell him to flype off some more!!

Even worse for me is unflyping the beggars for washing.

Just had a thought, if I didn't actually bother to unflype, would DH know the difference. Ha! Lightbulb moment.

shock

By the time baby number three came, they were just bundled into the drawer - no folding at all!

shysal Wed 16-Oct-13 19:18:44

I can't be bothered to hang out small items, so tumble dry them. When I do so for DD I always sort the washed items into clothing type and owners, also pairing the socks, before hanging on line. It makes sorting easier when dry. When I used to put away washed and dried terry nappies they were always folded into their kite shape first.

j08 Wed 16-Oct-13 19:17:08

I will tell DH he can flype his own flyping socks in future.

j08 Wed 16-Oct-13 19:16:14

a link for the non-Scottish amongst us

On Agus's behalf. smile

Nelliemoser Wed 16-Oct-13 19:08:35

I also "CBA" Agus and Nina. My DH is so anal he does hang them in pairs.

ninathenana Wed 16-Oct-13 18:09:15

I can't be a***d to hang them out in pairs. They get sorted when they're dry.

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 18:06:34

Hung outside higglety pigglety by the toes. Higglety pigs again indoors on the pulley. When dry, I toss them on the bed, black, navy blue and brown, no blooming pattern to help match them up so I inform DH his clean socks are upstairs ready for him to flype. I hate flyping and unflyping socks

Nelliemoser Wed 16-Oct-13 17:43:14

Kittyl Does the bread tastes OK, afterwards. Not of slightly less smelly socks I hope.

Ariadne Wed 16-Oct-13 17:35:28

And tea towels - she's quite keen on those too. What next, I wonder? smile

Nelliemoser Wed 16-Oct-13 17:30:25

J08 I have been away for a few days and I come back to find you posting about "when you have a lot of socks to wash and dry. Are you sure you are "quite well my dear"? Or is it just a fit of irony. wink

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 17:19:27

Breadmaker's good, kitty! grin In this house, radiators, Rayburn, arm-rests of settees. Never thought of the breadmaker. [inspired]

Socks go in the tumble dryer unless it's a very hot day!

I've cut and pasted this from something I wrote on another thread:

...my mother - the supreme housewife, who, when she came to stay when the DC were young, made it her mission to pair off all the DS's white sports socks. She got a nappy pin, and each time she discovered a lone sock, she would attach it to the pin. She ended up with about9 different socks, and was not amused. The boys didn't give a **, and were happy to wear slightly odd socks, and that, as far as she was concerned, was quite beyond the pale...

kittylester Wed 16-Oct-13 17:06:07

I use the higgledy piggeldy system and put left overs draped on the breadmaker. It's not unusual to find 3 or 4 odd ones there - how does that happen? thlconfused

Gorki Wed 16-Oct-13 16:41:30

Thanksbags you've made my day.
Grandchildren(aged 6) have been staying all week. Daughter sent over their clothes on Monday which included 3 odd white socks for granddaughter. Looked in grandson's football kit bag and found just one football sock. Rang up daughter who said "Well he only brought one home " .!I looked in lost property at school. Variety of smelly white socks but not his. Come this morning he says "I don't want to go to football today"
"Why ever not?" says I.
"Because I've only got one sock" says he.
A quick rummage through a drawer and I actually found 2 white England socks. A bit small but OK. Hurrah! Everybody happy !grin

We DO have a strict "no cheesy feet" policy though Glass so not sure you will fit in here! grin

glassortwo Wed 16-Oct-13 16:30:28

grin maybe I should apply for the next vacant position, I would fit in well..

gillybob Wed 16-Oct-13 16:26:22

Exactly glass he was the clown that put two odd socks on! Probably had a charity "no shoes at work day" we have them all the time ! grin
