Do any of you ~normal~ people experience this problem?

No, I use dishwasher tablet detergent.

That problem does not surprise me at all. Try storing he container upside down to get the last dregs out.

It works for bottles of brown sauce.
I do not put my brown sauce in the dishwasher I hasten to add.
To be serious I use tablets now. I have a feeling that fancy "gels" etc are just an expensive gimmick.

I also use dishwasher tablets but for shampoo, washing up liquid and even marmalade I store upside down and it is amazing how much one gets out, especially shampoo. For liquid hand gels there is usually a gap with a new bottle so I upend the old onto the new and leave it overnight to drain the remaining contents. You can probably tell that I am Scottish!

I turn the bottle upside down to drain the last of the detergent do also for washing up liquid if washing dishes by hand have you tried using the gel pouches which you pop into the machine they give the correct measured amount that you need for a single wash.
The problem for me is when I get 3/4 way through say liquid foundation or moisturiser it tend to stay at the bottom of the tube,I have been known to cut the bottom of the tube and extract that way and put into a small screw top tub as it is too expensive to discard.I too share Scottish genes grin

Everything gets a bit of water added to get the last drops out - sauce goes into casseroles etc. I also cut off the end of creams so as not to waste a drop !

I'm not Scottish, I'm Yorkshire !

I'm London and do all these things otherwise you just waste so much. I think those of us born after the war were brought up not to waste anything.

I have been known to fish empty shampoo, moisturiser etc bottles and tubes out of DD's (and even a friend's blush ) bin to take home and do all the above.

tiggypiro I'm Yorkshire too! DD was born in Yorkshire but the genes have obviously been diluted somewhere.

Detergent bottles are tipped on their ends until the next use, then emptied into the cap or whatever measures the right amount. Then bottle is rinsed in warm water and tipped into the dispenser drawer. Tubes of moisturiser are cut in half and the cream poked out! Waste not, want not.....always been like that!

Yeah! we will save the world in spite of the efforts of the next generation.

I've mentioned this before, make sure lids are on firmly, hold bottle/jar upside down and swing around in circles.

trishs Sun 03-Nov-13 13:02:46

I've tried all of the various tricks suggested, even the swinging around in circles, and for most liquids and creams, and sauces/mayonnaise etc the contents are eventually retrievable, but with the detergent gels I've tried nothing works! Even my husband was defeated and had to prise off the end of the container to poke out the remaining gel. And I'm not talking about the last little dollop but this problem occurs when there are several wash loads left, allegedly. I think the problem maybe could be avoided if I ALWAYS shook the container vigorously before use, right from the beginning. It's as if the runny stuff gets separated out whilst the product is standing between washes and then gradually, what is left transforms into the really viscous stuff.

I used to use tablets but found they often left a residue. And I tend to make even more mess with powders than liquids, so I shall persevere with the gels and shake the next new container every time from the first use.

Never had a problem with it - they are stored upside down anyway

However -clinique foundation is another story ! I have cut the bottom off and am using a foundation brush to get at the contents....

Trishs re detergent gels, once you think the present bottle is empty, store it up side down. Use the new gel bottle and when it is 3/4 full, upend the old gel bottle to allow the contents to slowly run into the new one. This may take a few hours.

Or pour a little boiling water into the used one, swirl it around and see if that makes adifference.
