We've got a bit of a leak too, nothing major mercifully. Our builder has been here for three days now because he needs inside work during the storms. He can't get up to mend the leak and the house is now a shambles but it's probably worth it.

More seriously bags, you have my sympathy. We had terrible leaks last year and are just praying it won't happen again as we can't afford to do more than makeshift repairs until next summer.

I can't get a carpet fitter to refit ALL my carpets after the central heating men had to take them all up! They'll also have to roll them back to find what the lumps are that have now been left UNDER the carpets that I keep treading pm in my bare feet!

When I was nursing we worked 8 to 8 on Christmas day. The chef is in the wrong profession if he thinks he can pick and choose what day he works.
I see the fire fighters are on strike for five hours on Christmas eve and six hours on New year's eve so we will have to be extra careful.

I have no sympathy for the guy, he should choose a different job. DD is nursing a Christmas morning shift until about 3pm. This will probably be the case for some years. DGS is only a toddler at present but he will have to deal with it as do the children of so many essential shift workers.

And suppose he had a house fire? Would the fire fighters leave it to burn down because it's Christmas? And the police? The paramedics? hmm

Stansgran I saw that report and wondered why he was in such a profession as it is one of the busiest periods whilst I think he should enjoy his child the baby would not know if it was Christmas Day or Shrove Tuesday ? I wonder how this chap would feel if he needed a doctor etc on Christmas day only to be told they are not available because they need to be home with their children.

Did anyone feel any sympathy for the chef who was sacked because he refused to work on Christmas Day ? He said he had a seven month old daughter and that was his reason! Did he not plan to be around for all the other Christmases ?

My shower was leaking and i managed to get a plumber here as he was winding down before Christmas and this was at the beginning of the week!

Not so lucky with a TV aerial engineer. He has been here once, the problem has not been fixed so I will have to find another probably mid January by the time they get back to work again.

My daughters having her house almost rebuilt. A few weeks ago she was at work and the builders sent her a photo showing/saying 'we've just taken the roof off'. Five minutes later they sent her a text saying 'we're going home now; tee hee'.

I wish you well. Down here the entire building trade will be shutting up shop for a fortnight until Jan 6th, but perhaps if you have a local "tame" builder you will be in luck!

Wonderful timing, middle of winter, shortest days, foul weather, rain driving into the house wall. In short, a leak. Naturally it's the most difficult wall to get at always supposing we can persuade a builder to come and do something about it at all.

Sigh.
