Brabantia

Nearly ten years ago (October 2004) we bought one of those new-fangled (well, back then!) touch bins that open when you press the lid. It cost a fortune, £90 (I think), but came with a 10 year guarantee so we assumed it would last a long time.

About a month ago the lid stopped opening and closing so I contacted Brabantia and asked if we could buy a new top part. They asked when we bought it, I told them and they immediately sent a new one!

I was shocked, firstly, by the fact that we could find the receipt and, secondly, by the fact that they took our word for it.

Well done Brabantia. smile

I had a similar experience with a Le Creuset casserole which had started shedding its enamel on the underside of the lid. As I had never scrubbed the lid I asked about it in John Lewis admitting I had no proof of purchase from them and they offered to ask the LC rep when next in. A few weeks later I had a phone call saying I could pick a new casserole whenever I wished as LC offer a lifetime guarantee!smile

We had a similar experience too with a very expensive cat flap (the type that recognises cat's micro-chip) We couldn't find receipt but remembered when we purchased it, they sent a new one immediately. We required a new part on the working part of the cat flap 2 years later and they sent another new cat flap. Amazing

I don't like Brabantia if their bins are anything to go by. I gave a nice looking red one to one dd and a silver one to other dd. With both bins the lids stick open and have to be flipped down manually. I have a much cheaper bin from Homebase and it closes beautifully! Grrr!

They are pedal bins btw

Perhaps I should contact them. But I think replacements would be the same.

DD1 has a pedal bin like that jingl but not made by Brabantia - it was Homebase and it is always open unless closed manually. I was only talking about the service really, which I thought was amazing.

I hate touching bins anywhere but on the outside top - yuck!
