we have a private car park for all residents, last year my fence panel blew down and also the the post snapped (well think someone nudged it from the other side) there were 4 people supposed to join at the repair, 3 of them did and paid up including myself, but one that said they would pay actualy didn't when it come down to it..I went round around 5 times and in the end they told me not to go round again as they said I was being racist!!!!(all I was doing was trying to collect the money from all 4 properties) so I gave up in the end. anyway my question is....(nothing to do with that) but my panel and the one either side has now blown down again..but!!! when I have checked my fence post!! I can now see that he never dug out the previous concrete and just sat the new post on top of the existing concrete (so was only about 4 inch in the ground) no wonder it hasn't stood up to the gales etc..I did notice it leaning a bit about 6 months after....so I have left my phone number with the said man (not yet told him what it is about other than some fencing down) at the moment I am furious but yes my own fault no bills just paid him the cash he did a few jobs round about the close so was well known) but I really havn't got spare cash to re do what he was meant to do in the first place..he has a white van, no name etc sort of works for himself I presume just as a general builder/roofer etc.anyone got their just deserts so to speak of?

Was he cheap because it was a cash-in-hand t-shirts dodge on his part. If so, you haven't got any come back. Be worth be confronting him though. Nothing ventured......

Tax!!!

Where did t shirts come from! hmm

Actually, if he doesn't pay tax, threatening to report him to the council might scare him into fixing it. Definitely have a try.

I read your response, Jingle, and did not think there was anything wrong with it! Must have been because it came from you.

grin

I guess it does conjure up a certain sort of white-van-man!

I rather liked the original "t-shirts dodge" jingle smile

Yes bikergran I would have a go. You have nothing to lose, (except your hard earned cash if he tells you where to get off).

I should have added "and builder's bum"!

Let us know how you get on Biker.

Must be the same cowboy builder who put up the fence between us and the next door neighbour. It's actually 'her' fence and blew down in yesterday's storm and my dogs got out. Same story. Old concrete not dug out.

Meant to say biker it's worth trying to get him to redo the job properly, if he won't then trading standards are a possibility.

Thanks for all responces..and the mood I am in at the mo !yes!! I could well confront him! grrrr..I am waiting and hoping he returns my call, I shall be nice and polite and ask him to call round asap hoping tomorrow... I will point out to him his shoddy work (I have taken pics) you can see where he hammered big nails in to help support the post and once up I could not see the nails but now! it is a complicated sinario as it should be 3 others that sort it out but they just sit back and do sod all nothing. I shall keep you posted (I like a challenge) smile

'keep you posted !' I like the pun smile Good luck

Any chance of inviting the three others to be present at the meeting with this cowboy? It was their money too. Outnumber him. Even your non-payer would be another backup. Trading standards woukld expect him to do a secent job, however he was paid.

Oh, and perhaps they other two might back you up in getting the non-payer's share this time? Stomp your feet a bit.
