Update:

We have had to get cracking as DD has been given two months notice to leave her rented cottage as her landlady wants to sell it! DD asked for a stay of execution and explained what we are doing here but it was a flat NO! I'm really cross because DD has been in the cottage for five years and has been an excellent tenant.

Soooooooo we went out this morning and bought a static caravan (I suppose there's a first for everything) We have the space to put it alongside the building we're going to convert so drainage/septic tank, phone and electricity supply won't be a problem.

The caravan is 35 ft long and sleeps 6. It's in really good condition and tastefully decorated (no dreaded garish orange or purple) DD is so excited and relieved that there will be no more sleepless nights about being homeless.

Phew! We now have two weeks to prepare the site and access.

I'll put up some pics of the caravan on the pics thread. It'll make wonderful guest accommodation when DD moves into our bungalow in fact I rather fancy moving in there myself. grin

How exciting Merlot, we are hoping to restore/rebuild our 'studio' later this year but we are still waiting for the architect to come back to us to tell us what we can actually do.
Anything will be bigger than it is now but as we will have to move out ourselves, the furniture and all the stuff stored in the adjoining bread oven (a room about 4 metres square) which is crammed full of things that won't fit anywhere else, we have got to seriously declutter first. I just want to wave a magic wand over it all. grin
Hopefully hearing of your progress will get me going. smile

Oh DF [flowers| but what an excellent idea merlot - don't make it too posh tho or your DD might want it instead!!

Mishap Wed 30-Apr-14 18:02:21

Thanks, everyone. I'll put some pics up as we go along. At the moment I'm re-designing the border which will be outside my kitchen window. Got to get my priorities right!! It'll give me something to focus on while we wait for the go-ahead from the council. smile

I suppose I could offer to move into my shed and give DD the house, which is far too big for me on my own....

Ooh can understand your excitement merlot If I have a project I want it done now and this will be so lovely for all of you. I hope we can see pics when it's finished.
I'd hire out DD if you were closer. She spent all weekend de cluttering and deep cleaning her friends flat as she has a lodger moving in next week. DD loves a mission smile

I posted on another thread - can't remember which one - that we were hoping to convert an outbuilding in our garden into a granny annexe for us so DD1 and the two DGSs can move into our bungalow.

The architect came this morning and assured us that there should be no problems with 'change of use' and that after a ten week wait we should be able to get started.

I'm really excited now. Although it will mean downsizing again I'm quite looking forward to having a brand new home and DD is relieved that she'll soon be able to stop paying an extortionate amount of rent for a cramped, damp cottage. It will be lovely for us all to be together without being under one another's feet and two acres is now far too big for us to manage on our own.

I'm itching to get cracking but I know the dreaded de-cluttering must come first. hmm
