I think you should pay as much as you can afford for a good mattress. I am not keen on Tempur. But I am a fan of VI -Spring. Would always buy one of those.

Going bed shopping today, need to try them out, heading for J Lewis. Will spend sometime trying all the mattresses out. I guess you get what you pay for with them and it's worth paying for comfort as you get older!

Thanks for that when, our mattress is about 12 years old, has been fantastic, but will need replacing soon. It was just under £1000 in the sales, worth every penny

My Tempur is about nine years old and is like new. Good value in the long run, and the most comfortable mattress I've had. Heavy to shift, although I learned last year that you don't need to turn them. The cover zips off for washing. When I ordered mine from Tempur, they asked if I was buying it for medical reasons (I'd had an op and needed a better mattress as a result) and when I said yes, they took the VAT off, so it cost under £1,000.

We bought a Tempur like over topper for beds we got here from a friend- and they are great, and saved us a fortune on a Tempur mattress.

We have had a Tempur for over tem years and , when we need to replace it, will have another! The difference it makes to our creaky joints is really marked! Charley, ours didn't stink - we used it the night it arrived!

Don't like Tempur mattresses as I do like my electric blanket in winter! You can get a good (Hypnos- made) own brand natural fibres mattress from the JL store for about £750 and upwards. We have just bought a whole new Hypnos bed and it is heaven!

suzied I was under the impression that one did not change a mattress, one changed the entire bed.

I have a memory foam mattress which I just love. The downside is that one cannot put it on the bed immediately as it stinks. Mine was in a spare bedroom for a week until it was free from odours.

I am looking to buy a new mattress . I have tried those Tempur mattresses in hotels and they are super comfy so am tempted, are they worth it? They cost £1000+. My current one I have had for a 5 years and I am not happy with it, it's too hard, and the fabric is tearing at the sides. And it wasn't cheap, though not as much as the Tempur ones.
