I know marble is supposed to be wonderful for pastry but I wouldn't consider it for a worktop. Much too porous and liable to stain - and remember all those worn away marble steps in continental cathedrals.

- I have a "looks like" granite kitchen work top which was pretty expensive but of course cheaper than the real thing. It is indestructible and still looks brand new after 10 years. Cleaning is a wipe with a wet cloth, occasionally I take Worktop Wonder to it.
