kitchen worktop

I know marble is supposed to be wonderful for pastry but I wouldn't consider it for a worktop. Much too porous and liable to stain - and remember all those worn away marble steps in continental cathedrals.

I had granite work tops and marble backs put in last year. They are so easy to keep clean.i wonder why I didn't have them before.

durhamjen I could replace the doors but the carcasses of the cupboards are very old and tatty. Perhaps just repainting the current doors would help - but I'm basically idle!!! I was thinking of having a lovely brand new kitchen but, it works and I do love my corian.

goldengirl my sink is also integral to the worktop, no joins. Brilliant, I agree.

Is it not possible just to replace the doors, goldengirl?

I've had my Corian work top for donkeys years and its absolutely brilliant - so easy to clean and there are no visible joins around the sink which makes sink cleaning so much easier too. I'd love to revamp my kitchen but don't want to lose the work top which was made to fit - that's the only downside!

Just saying - I have a "looks like" granite kitchen work top which was pretty expensive but of course cheaper than the real thing. It is indestructible and still looks brand new after 10 years. Cleaning is a wipe with a wet cloth, occasionally I take Worktop Wonder to it.

Granite is usually much harder and less affected by any chemicals you may use on it.
Marble is relatively a lot softer and is generally more likely to stain. Marble is in essence limestone that has been "baked" under particular geological conditions.
I would be wary of marble worktops but it depends how you use them.
