Curtain dilemma

I know granjura I'm sorry. I have given lots to charity (P.D.S.A.) with this house move and I know I should have done that with the curtains too, sorry. I have given things to the neighbours too where there are younger children who have had my son's old board games, his books and shelf unit. I've not finished yet, obviously, to sort out and pack so other things will be going to charity, even things I could sell on really. I have a huge stack of read books which have cost me a bit but most will go to charity.

Thank you all for your comments. I know that I said that I would do what you all suggested but after looking again at the curtains which have been in the attic for 13 years and they look dated, old fashioned. And they did remind me of the home I left. So sorry ladies, but I can't lie, they have hit the bin.

Some great news though, we have been offered a house!!! A lovely two bed semi which will be beautiful when we do it up. I say we, I mean me, apart from my son will do his own room and grunt at my efforts. My dad has offered to make brews and sing (because my cd player was on the blink, but fixed it tonight). So I'm very excited, fresh start and all that so probably best to get new-to-me stuff with no memories attached, time to make new ones.

Keep them. Like annodomino I stayed in the marital home and only changed things as and when necessary.

Put them in your new place rubylady they are sure to look nice after all you choice them in the first place and I bet they are lovely,as someone said they will look totally different on other windows so the effect will not bring you memories,the only things that would remind me of an ex-marital home would be the smellie socks in the laundry basket everything else is a bonus.

Agree. Try them in new house. I went through exactly the same experience many years ago and found that things looked very different in the new environment. You'll find pleasure in the future as you gradually replace things. I have to admit that the velvet curtains I bought just a few months before the split are still in reasonable nick and keep my bedroom dark and cosy in winter.

I'm with Agus. Try them in your new house and see how it goes. If you find they carry too many memories you'd rather forget, you can make the change later. I lived on for 14 years in our marital home and I can't say that any of the decor reminded me of my ex.

Hang them in your new home then you will know yourself how you feel about still having them.

It's a tricky one.

If the curtains are going to bring you the odd sad, or angry, or any kind of unpleasant, memory of your past marriage, is it worth it? There are loads of beautiful curtains out there....

rubylady It really is nothing to do with anyone else, you're the important one here.
If you like them and they look nice............... no problem!
If you decide that you're not happy with them ................ charity shop them!

If you are unsure, why not transform them into cushions, framed art, lampshades or other bits and pieces? I kept a few things from my ex-marital home, but soon phased them out as I could afford to buy new.

Agreed unless you think they will make you unhappy keep them and enjoy.

Oh keep them and use. You obviously love them, or you would have binned them already. They are inanimate objects with no memories

And, it will save you money at an expensive time. You can always replace them at a later date if you want to!

Do not get talked into getting rid of something you love.

Girl children in particular seem to do this. Any furnishings your house that are not in 50 shades of beige are considered naff.

You say they are beautiful, and you love them, so go ahead and enjoy them in your new place. I bet you chose them in the first place anyway!

I agree with phoenix my motto being waste not, want not.

If you like them, and they will go with your with your new decor/colour scheme etc, then keep them.

Can't see any problem whatsoever.
