Glad to hear you are safe Jings.

Now I can't wait for either the cooker, oven or diswasher to blow- as that will be the trigger for a new kitchen- but it just will not oblige- been waiting for 5 years now ;)

Hush pompa, jings is getting a new cooker! wink

loopylou Sun 04-Jan-15 14:36:43

Certainly lasted longer than any cooker I've owned!

I doubt the tin touching the side would cause that, otherwise it would happen often. The elements are sheathed. Probably the insulation inside the element broke down, that causes a pretty big bang and flash. Simple enough to get replaced.

I'm glad there were no injuries - hope all the food was salvaged!

I'd say 35 years cooker life is around 90 in human years grin so time for a new one.

We are scoffing the parts of the dinner that are cooked, and then we are off to John Lewis. I will be sad to see the back of my old cooker. I have had it about thirtyfive years. I am used to it. But the thought of a new one is quite exciting. smile

How scary! I cannot think why the ceramic tin would cause such a thing even if it did touch the element. I would be inclined to get this appliance well and truly checked over.

Glad you survived!

Crikey Jingl, that must have been a fright! Do hope dinner not too late sad

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 04-Jan-15 13:45:55

It was scary. There was yellow light, sparks and a zizzzz noise. I think the ceramic bun tin I was cooking the yorkshire puddings in, touched the element at the side. I'm alright though.

My oven is operating on one side element only. Dinner will be late.
