I never had a dishwasher till about 20 years ago - always thought the kitchens I had had previously were too small. However by then I had a big kitchen and I did almost all the washing up as I considered no-one else did it properly!!! I had remarried a year or so before and OH thought I did too much as I was working full time and just took me out to choose one - now I wouldn't be without one. I have had two Bosch in UK and my one here in France is also a Bosch - I think I will stick with them when this needs replacing as several people I know with other makes do not find them so good. Although mainly only two of us I fill it up and run it daily.

Wow why do you hand wash your saucepans tanith they are the worst! I didn't have one for the first two children then had terrible sickness for six months on baby no3 and as soon as I smelt the washing up liquid I was sick! Cue down to Comet ( as was then) and first dishwasher was bought. Haven't been without one since and that was 32 years ago. Even now living on my own in a small house I have space in the kitchen for a slimline one which is fine for me. ( it is on load after load when the family all visit) I wouldn't be without it for anything.

When we moved to this house I treated myself to a dishwasher and wouldn't be without one now. I never had one when my children were young, but I love it now and OH shares the loading and unloading.
I do wash all my saucepans by hand though, and I only use it when its full.

We never had a dishwasher when DS1 was born. I used to moan about it occasionally, but DH just rubbished me and said we didn't need one. When DS1 was four I was pregnant with DS2 and had to have bed rest for a week. DH was down to Currys quick as lightning and we had a dishwasher within the day! Should have taken to my bed years earlier! Wouldn't be without one now.

After having had dishwashers for decades I am currently having to do without one as I am living in a rented house with a tiny kitchen and no utility/laundry room. Mr absent hates this more than I do as washing the dishes is his job. As soon as we can buy a house, a larger kitchen with space for a dishwasher is a priority.

Sorta late in then day to start a discussion but I was recently house hunting and the first thing that's important to me is a dishwasher. As a young mother i had to do without for the first year of my sons life and the two years before he was born.I can't imagine having to do without.Im always using too many dishes and cutlery. Im very careful and always grab a clean object. Do several of you manage without? I once asked ole Pete if his family had a dishwasher and he said yes..his wife! grin
