Shower screen query

Evening all.

Do any of you have over bath showers with a 4 part folding screen? (Hope you are with me so far smile

It will probably come as no surprise that we have one!

Now, oh wise ones, please can you help with this! The glass panels of the screen have a sort of rubbery, silicone type edging to the top and bottom of each panel, and on the border of each panel where it is set into the glass.

The screen has been in place for 10 years, works perfectly, does what it is supposed to etc, but the rubbery stuff, that was practically transparent when it was installed, is now a rather unappealing orangey brown colour.

We have tried the good old bathroom standby of Dettol mould and mildew remover, brilliant on the grouting between tiles) but no luck

Any suggestions? I really could do without buying a new one, when all that is wrong with this one is that the rubbbery stuff looks naff.

Hi Pheonix what about googling new rubbers for showers screen, I'm sure screwfix may do something, wonder if you can buy a length and cut it down to fit the 4 panels, I'm sure I have seen universal rubbers for showers screens.I may be wrong of course! hmm

Is it like a plasticky strip that covers the edges of the glass? You should be able to slide it off and replace it with a new one ( you have to order this from the glass manufacturer.) If it's just a silicone strip you should be able to( or get someone to) rake it out and reapply new silicone.

Thanks for the responses.

It may be possible to replace the strips at the top and bottom of each panel, but I don't see how it would work replacing the ones around each panel that sort of hold the glass in!

Hard to explain, but I'll try. 4 panels, all hinged, each has strip top and bottom, bottom strip makes contact with the edge of the bath when put in position. Each panel has it's own "steel" frame. The stuff used as strips top and bottom, is also used between each side of the glass of each panel and it's metal frame.

Back to the top, where I said that "it might be possible to remove the top and bottom" etc. confused

You could try scrubbing with toothpaste on an old toothbrush and then rinsing off with vinegar.

We sort of had this problem with sliding shower doors, which were impossible to clean. Eventually we. replaced the lot and we now have a lovely walk in shower with no moving parts to get manky. You could try contacting the manufacturer, they might have a suggestion, even if it involves dismantling the whole thing and reassembling it.they may even send someone to do it you never know.
