Washing-up

I wouldn't be without mine ever! Currently have a slimline one but that's fine just for me do have to load twice when family come for the weekend and we've had a big meal. Have had a dishwasher since 1983 when I was pregnant with DD2 and had horrendous sickness that lasted 6 months. Every time I squeezed washing up liquid into a bowl I had to run to be sick so bought one then as no-one else wanted to wash up. I love it

I said on another thread that I would rather be without my washer than my dishwasher. After all, I could take my washing to a laundrette!

I wouldn't want to be without mine.

I have one but only use it when we have visitors.
We replaced it quite recently, but I think the old one was responsible for pitting my stainless steel cutlery and taking the shine off my dinner service, even though they were supposed to be dishwasher safe.
Prefer to wash up as I go along - I don't like the thought of the dirty dishes sitting there for two days with the food getting encrusted on the plates!

I don't really do much cooking [even though I create as much mess making a cheese sandwich as most people do cooking a three course meal] so I just wash up by hand and use the dishwasher as a draining board. Even though I never do ironing etc I like washing up and hate anyone else to do it for me. Even a machine....

Our dishwasher conked out from over use, but we decided we needed a third freezer more than a replacement DW and surprisingly it was a good decision. I have everyone trained to 'wash, dry, and put away - straight away' so no pots and pans hanging around and no DW for me to empty.

I love it, I do so much cooking and hate washing all the baking trays and roasting trays etc. I love knowing I haven't got to scour all those pans and wash out all those mixing bowls. Today I made six dozen tartlets for a garden party, and two dozen fairy cakes. All I had to wash up were the wooden spoons and spatulas.

According to a pub quiz answer last week, over 50% of households have one now. Wouldn't like to be without mine I must say!

I've only had one about six years since we revamped the kitchen. I wouldn't want to be without it now. DD was most indignant when we got it "Huh, you wait till I leave home !"

Thanks for reminding me, mine needs emptying!

I lerve my dishwasher. All my pots and pans can go in it, as well as the racks from the oven and grill pan. For someone who lives alone, I create an astonishing amount of washing up.

I'll get one when I move. It'll be a new and exciting experience!

I intially bought one when I had two teenage sons at home and I kept finding the sink full of dishes waiting to be washed. The next hurdle was persuading them to unload the machine. When I downsized I didn't have room for it, but later had the kitchen remodelled and got a slimline one, just before I had surgery on my shoulder which made dishwashing difficult for a good two months. Being on my own I only need to use it every two or three days. A godsend!

Even for just two of us I wouldn't be without mine. At weekend particularly
I like to just relax after our meal knowing I can load it before bed and unload in the morning. Lazy or sensible?.

This is the first time in decades when I haven't had a dishwasher – the kitchen in the house where I am currently living is just too small and there isn't a proper utility room. A priority when I am finally able to buy rather than rent a house is a much larger kitchen with room for a dishwasher, not least because I regularly look after my grandchildren (well, the five oldest, not the baby yet) and frequently invite the whole family for lunch or supper.

I've never had a dishwasher. It would probably be nice to have one, but haven't got the space really and the amount of washing-up wouldn't really justify it.

As you say apricot, after family meals it usually gets done without my asking!
