Best Memory Foam Mattress Topper?

I have a memory foam mattress + a mattress topper on top- only because I bought it first and liked it so much and did not want to get rid of it.

I lent the topper to a friend and she returned it 2 days later because it made her sweat so much. I have the same problem with the mattress and the topper but I can live with that as I find them both so comfortable. I also have memory foam pillows- one I find comfortable- the other very uncomfortable.

I am not sure how long memory foam mattresses last and if they should be changed every 10 years or so like a normal mattress.

I agree with Nelliemose re getting out of bed, I do find it difficult at times.

I have got a tempur mattress, which I sleep well on, but it is a bit sweaty in the morning. I wondered if putting a flannelette sheet under the cotton one would help. Has any one else had this problem, and found a solution?

I bought one about 3 inches deep about five years ago from Argo. It sits on top of my existing mattress, has a removable zipped on washable soft toweling type cover. I turn mine weekly when I change bed linen and it has been a real boon to my aching hip and back.

The cost was about 129 pounds stg. (sorry something's gone wrong with the pound sign on my keyboard). I think they may be cheaper now.

I can really recommend this mattress topper and wouldn't buy anything less than 3 ins deep. Hope this helps

Can anyone advise what is the best thickness for a memory foam mattress. Is it a case of , the thicker, the better. Also, is that the case for a topper as well.

I got a memory foam topper on Ebay for the spare bed and it's quite hard. Nobody has complained, but I think they were just being polite. I will probably go to Dunelm to look for a replacement.

Some years ago bought a very expensive new bed with a really good quality memory foam mattress, layers of this and layers of that etc. We hated it!
Put it in the guest room, the guests hated it! got rid of it in the end. bought a new mattress for the guest room, so guests happy now, and also a normal one for our bed with a memory foam topper only. result, bliss.The mattress is firm but comfortable, and the topper just gives a bit of extra aahhh! Factor. they cost £50 each ( single size) as this is better than a double or king size, means no ' roll together'( unless you want to of course, but that's another matter.)

You can't beat a really good quality pocket sprung mattress. John Lewis give good advice. Firm mattresses are not a good idea. You need to "go into" the mattress at your shoulders (on your side) and your hips.

We have a memory foam mattress plus a 3" topper. I added the topper and our memory foam was quite firm and my hips were getting a bit sore. The topper made all the difference.

The two guest bedrooms each have a 3" memory topper on an interior sprung mattress. Everyone loves them.

Bear in mind that memory foam also comes in different densities/resistance. And the deeper sided fitted mattresses are easy to find. I got one in TK Maxx and others on the internet, Amazon if I remember correctly.

Just ordered 2 from the local French bed shop- but wow they are expensive- shop manager persuaded me to buy the best with plush removable washable cover- and since OH is suffering so- thought I'd spend good money. 320 Euros each - yiiikes.

I have recently bought a Dormeo Octaspring zoned topper. It was greatly reduced, with a free Octaspring pillow. That offer is no longer available from Dormeo, but there are some sites giving discounts. It is extremely comfortable and not as hot as my previous memory foam topper. I was getting tender hips, which is now a thing of the past. I couldn't say how it would be for back problems. You could check online reviews. The best part of the offer for me was the pillow - I love it! It looks and lifts up like a brick, but is wonderful support without giving me sore ears, and cool.

We haven't managed to find a mattress that doesn't leave us with more aches in the morning than when we went to bed.
We have a combined mattress like Jane10 at the moment. We had a softer memory foam topper on it for a while but it just made things worse, so I sold it on Ebay.
Thinking of ditching memory foam as we have slept on better beds on holiday and forget to ask what they are!

Nine years ago, I saw an ad for memory foam cut to size which was just what I wanted as I have a small double bed. It cost me £75 at the time and is still as good as new. Very comfortable, 2" of foam on top of an interior sprung mattress. I buy deeper fitted sheets which are easily available. It doesn't appear to make me hotter than any other mattress.

I would think that you need to make sure the bed itself is reasonably firm and supportive before you put on a memory foam topper.
A doubt if a foam topper would help if the mattress itslef is no good.
Getting the wrong product can be an expensive mistake.
All back problems are different. I have found a full memory foam mattress dreadful for my back as it sinks in far to much when you sit on it and that puts my lower back at the wrong angle right away. Ouch

I encountered that bed and a memory foam chair in a local hospital.
With a full memory foam mattress if you need to push down with your hands to get yourself out of bed your hand tends to sink into the matress and you lose the power of your pushing action.

I have a combined memory foam and pocket spring mattress and I would never go back to one without memory foam. I think that the depth is important. The deeper the better but be aware that this could cause problems with bed linen especially if you have fitted sheets: the combined depth could be too deep for average sheets.
I have to say that I didn't count the cost as I think that you spend such a huge percentage of your life in bed its worth getting it right. That said I did buy it in a sale but would have bought it anyway. Its a Sealy btw. Good luck!
