Just taken a call from someone saying they were from Talk Talk technical department . They said my laptop was infected and I must log on immediately! They still insisted when I refused because I was going to work! Checked with Talk Talk and it is a scam so please beware.

Seconded. My sister, a sensible, savvy sort of person, was so nearly caught by them. Because of all the data records that were stolen, they knew her account details, full name and address, monthly payments and bank account details, her last bill, everything, so she believed this was for real. They told her they would pay her £200 for the inconvenience, then that they had 'accidentally' paid £2000 instead and showed her a screen shot that purported to be her TT account showing the overpayment. Then asked her to go to her bank ( and withdraw cash and post it to a PO Box that they sent her a label for, telling her to leave the phone off the hook. She got as far as the bank who told her it was all nonsense. They then threatened to bomb her house 'because we know where you live'. All very frightening for her. Put The Phone Down!

I've just started a thread about another one referring to Dartford crossing. Maybe Gnhq could give us a scams thread as then we wouldn't have the bother of starting a post. I nearly didn't bother but remembered a very clever on the ball friend who was caught out.

I got a call at work from someone with a strong accent claiming to be from Microsoft calling about an operating fault.

Which was odd, as my work PC is an AppleMac! grin
