Ikea sofas

Our lovely old sofa needs replacing and I wondered if anyone had an Ikea sofa they would recommend? We need a comfortable three seater with washable covers. We are in France so other UK suppliers are no good and I don't think we could afford John Lewis prices with shipping. Our other possible supplier would be Maisons du Monde if anyone has one of their sofas.

We have several friends who have bought IKEA sofas in France because they are the nearest type to UK ones - they all seem very happy with them. The other route you could possibly go down is to get one in UK from such a place as Sofasofa - good reliable company selling Uk made sofas - and have it delivered to Franglais deliveries or another one - and get a quote to bring to France.

Younger son has had one for 10+ years. Huge sofa. Came in three sections. Still very comfy. Covers have faded a bit in the wash but look fine. Perhaps others can add their experiences to help you decide. Good luck with the sofa hunt.

Sorry. Should have said IKEA sofa.

Our DS & DIL have two IKEA Sofas, one bought here 7 years ago and another bought to match in OZ 5 years ago.

They are reunited here! And are both wearing well.

Like many things I don't think today's sofas are meant to last very long, regardless of the cost. Our last v.expensive sofa only lasted 10 years before it needed recovering and new stuffing. Unlike its Victorian predicessor, which is still going strong in someone else's house!

We now go for a mid price sofa that will last for a few years and have little expectations!

We have had our Wesley Barrell one for thirty years but it really does need replacing now! I wondered if M and S did sofas on the French site so I put in canapés and got a load of stuff about nibbles. grin
I was looking at the Ikea Ektorp if anyone knows about that one? Will try and get to Ikea this week. My DD says it is worth coming to France for as it is so quiet.

I like the fact that with most Ikea sofas you can buy the replacement covers which gives you a whole new look when you tire of the original purchase,DD has the Ponang chairs and footstools and has changed the covers from cream to pale green last year and they gave the room a whole new look.

I have two, two seater Ektorp IKEA sofas. Bought them about three years ago, and paid more for good covers. They don't get much robust use, being just the two of us - but so far so good and have been very pleased with the design and comfort. We also have a contemporary three seater leather sofa from IKEA, which is 12 years old, and wearing extremely well.

WE had IKEA sofas for 12 years. Brown leather. A 2 seater and a 3 seater. We have replaced them now but I found them hard wearing and comfortable.

We also have a two seater Ektorp IKEA sofa, as it is impossible to get UK sofa's here in Cyprus. So far it has lasted 8 years and is very comfortable. I did get an extra set of covers, just in case, but they dry so quickly here when washed they are still in the box!

Thank you. Looks like the sofa of choice for Gransnetters Abroad! Off to Ikea this morning. grin
