Well he turned up first thing yesterday morning and did a good job so all is forgiven (ish). Today we were booked in for an engineer to service our boiler between 12 and 4. Guess what it's nearly 5 now and he hasn't arrived. DH rang them and they said he had been delayed and will try to get here by 8 o'clock tonight. shock angry

Thanks for those ideas tina and jingl. We'll see if His Lordship turns up tomorrow but those sites may be useful in future.

It is very easy to use

It's hopeless isn't it? stansgran I don't use Facebook but if I did I would! We used Trust a Trader once and a chap came out and to give us a quote for an extension. He measured up and that was the last we heard of him!

We've been left dangling by an electrician AND a plumber. They've done the bulk of the work on the annexe (and been paid for it!) but we can't move towards the finishing post unless they keep their promises and actually turn up on the days they say they're going to.

I waited in all day today for the electrician who should have arrived yesterday only to get a phone call at 4pm to say he's coming tomorrow angry

The plumber is also supposed to be coming tomorrow so they'll be tripping over eachother.

DH and I have worked our socks off. I have finished all the decorating and DH has built the kitchen but it can't be installed until the blighters have done their bit.

We were hoping to be in by the end of October sad

The S.O. is trying to get a joiner to fit a new door for him. At the third attempt someone agreed to do it; he waited several weeks for him to do the work, phoned him yesterday only to get an answerphone message saying 'I'll be away for three months'. angry.

Trouble is, they've got you over a barrel because good tradesmen are so hard to come by and tend to be booked up for months.

The poor householder is so grateful to get an appointment or quote that they'll wait in for hours - I know, I've done it...hmm

Has he got a Facebook page? You could comment on there about hoping to see him tomorrow.

Apologies for the rant - better than taking it out on DH. This chap is coming 'first thing tomorrow morning' now - allegedly.

Grrr! It is so trying not to be able to rely on people.

We have a broken handle on the door to our little extension on the side of the house. The whole lock needs replacing. DH rang several locksmiths yesterday and their prices were extortionate. We have a little booklet that is put through our door every year with the names of local businesses and trusted tradesmen listed. DH phoned a chap yesterday and explained the problem. He said he would be at our house at 6.30 yesterday evening to give us a no obligation quote. He arrived, an hour late, and gave us a reasonable quote. He asked if we were going out this morning and DH said no. OK he said, I can do it tomorrow morning.
Time was going on this morning and he hadn't arrived so DH rang him and he said I'll be there at 2. Four o'clock DH had a phone call from this chap to say he would be here 'soon'. DH said that it was getting dark and would it be better left to another day. He said he has a light and it would be fine confused It is now 5 o'clock and there is no sign of him.
Why do people do this? I am not a happy bunny angry
