lime scale on outside of kettle

I use bottled water for the kettle and coffee maker, not sparkling but still bottled. Started doing this when all our water was either rain water from the roof or delivered by the tanker load. We are connected to the mains now but still using bottled water because I can taste the difference.

A little cooking oil.

Kilrock is the answer , two types one to des all g inside and one gel for outside. I live in a very hard hard area and it is brilliant.

Forgot to say it's excellent for round the base of taps and also the shower base, in the corners, or anything else that needs it.

Try Viakal, available from supermarkets. Dab it on, a good old glop, leave 20 mins and it should wipe off. A once round a week keeps it fine.

Sparkling water for tea sounds a bit strange! Have I misunderstood the post Harrigran?

Harriman - did you use it just once and it cleaned it or are you saying you use bottled sparkling water in the kettle all the time?

White alcohol vinegar works really well outside and inside. About every 2 weeks, I put an inch of white alcohol vinegar in the kettle, leave for a couple of hours and rinse- perfect. And a bit of vinegar on a cloth to clean the outside is so easy too.

I have the same problem around the outside of the lid, as I fill via the spout. I am afraid I just scour it, but the steel lid and enamel body haven't been damaged (yet).

We live in a hard water area and never get lime scale in the kettle, I use bottled sparkling water in the kettle and hey presto ! I found this out by accident as DH won't use tap water, smells and tastes disgusting according to him.
