PS I did take the shelves out and set the dishwasher at maximum. They came out gleaming.

I think mine has a self-cleaning function, but I've only had it for nine years, so haven't tried it yet. blush

DD's has a self-cleaning function which is extremely hot - and it does work.

rosequartz Thu 19-Nov-15 19:35:00

Mine is supposed to do something similar; pour some water into the bottom with some washing up liquid in it, turn it on full then 'wipe clean'.

I suppose if you do it every week (and stop ignoring it) it would work!

Weird! I post a comment casting doubt over some oven cleaning method, then go into the kitchen and find a large baked potato has explode all over mine! God, what a mess!

Isn't that what you have to do with self-cleaning ovens? Has yours got this function without you realizing? I would be surprised if it would work on the shelves of mine, which are usually the dirtiest.
It's Oven Pride for me any day! It is so easy I almost enjoy using it!

Let us know if it works please!

Hmm! hmm. Think I'll stick to Lakeland oven cleaner.

I wonder if vinegar would work as well as the lemons, phoenix.

Ana Thu 19-Nov-15 18:51:48

I have never had my oven on maximum temperature. I think it would probably explode! confused

If the man who came to clean your oven tells every customer this phoenix he may no longer have a job as the man who comes to clean ovens grin

Sounds like a jolly expensive way of cleaning an oven shock

phoenix Thu 19-Nov-15 18:09:02

That the best way to clean them is with a large dish of boiling water, containing 2 or 3 chopped lemons with the juice squeezed into it, then put the oven on maximum temperature for about 45 minutes. shock

Apparently you should then just be able to wipe it clean without too much elbow grease.

I haven't tried this myself, but will mention it to Mr P, (oven cleaner extrordinaire) who usually favours Oven Pride.
