How DIY are you?

DH is never happier than when fixing something so as his building labourer I know how to do lots of things, but I am dyspraxic and knowing what to do and doing it are two entirely different things.

However DD is a chip off the old block and is as competent as DH, plus can sew, knit and seemingly do anything else she sets her hand to.

When DS, who is also dyspraxic, moved into his first home and I was the only person available to help we were both surprised at just how many things we managed to do together from putting up shelves, curtain rails and laying carpet. We also managed it without cursing, swearing and getting really irritated, which is skill the other two do not have.

I am very good at DIY, I live alone so have telephone for a workman myself Ana

I really am a duffer at DIY, and having attacks of tendonitis makes wielding a screw driver painful

So are you saying you're good at DIY, Anniebach, or just that you can always call on someone from work to do it for you?

I can do most DIY, looking it up on Internet if necessary. DH can do DIY but he needs constantnagging reminding and then takes a blooming age hence I get on and do it.

Nina, only on site to check work , collect payment , try to sort out disagreements between staff and boss , no problem because boss can't sack me , our father funded the firm when brother wanted to go self employed , firm has built up, Dad said I was to be involved for as long as I wanted to be , so suppose emotional blackmail really , brother can't sack me but I can go on strike if I wish , yes naughty but hey ho [ grin]

I work for my brothers building firm

I can do most small jobs, and can use power tools. I quiet enjoy assembling flat packs. Though I've only ever done one as DH thinks it's his job.
I'm pretty good at decorating too. I'm the one who used to hang wallpaper, sadly I can't manage that any more.

I have learnt to do most small jobs, including fitting a new motor to my bathroom extractor fan recently. I am also pretty nifty at self-assembly furniture, although I did once put together a desk for DH (now ex), using the living room floor for space, than found it wouldn't fit through the study door!

I can tackle most small jobs but I 'let' OH do them as it makes him feel more useful , one thing that does defeat us though is dripping taps we have 2 and the shower drips too, anyone know a plumber who would actually just stop taps dripping? I think not. I've googled how to do it but we can never manage to undo the tap to get at the washers we are always frightened to use too much strength in case the thing breaks and we end up with water pouring everywhere.. oh and also our main stopcock is stuck that needs replacing too. Note to self.... ring a blooming plumber

Yes, I can use a drill, change a plug, make a shelf from wood and brackets. Put on skirting boards etc. I had to learn during 25 years with a very lazy ex husband.

I can do those Charley and change a plug and/or fuse. But I keep a DH for things like that.

I can change a light bulb and unblock a loo but apart from that I am useless.
